Gabi Fresh speaking on plus size and working with Playful Promises. “As a plus size woman with a 38HH bust, finding stylish, supportive and sexy lingerie options has always been an issue for me. So often people my size are left with boring beige options, and I’m honored to help change that. Body positivity is a core part of my belief system and brand, and designing lingerie that makes women feel good in their skin is a natural progression for me after doing the same with my swimwear collections. I’m so excited to be working with Playful Promises! They’re a great partner because they take risks with design and truly stand apart from what is currently being offered in extended sizes.”

“When I said I wanted to go out and eat; I didn’t mean a cookout” _ thefatgirloffashion

The Makossa Cookout began in 2010 as an intimate affair in small Brooklyn, New York backyard. Since then, the party has enjoyed a rapid, organic growth, expanded to Los Angeles and is now a premier summer destination on both coasts. Makossa Cookouts features live DJs spinning a balanced mix of hip-hop, R&B, Latin, reggae, electronic, and dance music. It is their ability to traverse many genres that’s their trademark and biggest appeal. Drinks, games, and a food menu featuring the best of what summertime has to offer rounds out the experience. Before I go any further, please be aware that this was not your garden variety day drinking party.
The Makossa Cookout brought their party to Chicago along with the good people of the Miller Lite. We had a day that was full of good music, good food and good vibes at the Wise Owl. The event was hosted by Dee Phunk. There were 5 DJs! Four of the DJs were from their Brooklyn and Los Angeles crews. They also had Chicago’s own King Marie. They brought the Midwest vibe full circle with Detroit’s Waajeed as a special headliner. Waajeed is a music producer, and one-half of the hip hop and R&B group Platinum Pied Pipers, and a founding member of Tiny Hearts.

The second of three #MakossaCookout #KickbackSeries events is taking over #Chicago and my cousin Carla and I had to be in the place to be.
I’m so glad we arrived early because the #MakossaCookout got packed quick!
The food was amazing and of course, we loved the Miller Lite drinks.
Carla and I had a great time. #FUN (video)

We all know the saying “Give a person their roses while they’re alive.” Monee here’s your rose bush. I met my good friend Monee randomly on one of my many retail therapy days. We became fast friends. She has been a great source of support for me and my blog. I am very grateful for her. A group of her many friends spent the day celebrating her birthday. We all got together for a cook out.
Summertime Chicago was a perfect backdrop for grilling and hanging with friends. We all agreed to bring a dish or beverage. There were some many great food options I was a happy camper. Monee birthday party was a huge success.

For the celebration of my good friend’s birthday, my contribution to the fun was a bottle of Ruffino Sparkling Rosé to her party. It’s known to have a fresh and fragrant with notes of strawberry and slight hints of rose petals. I normally don’t enjoy dry wines. So an extra dry wine is almost always a no go for me. However, the manager told me about the great blend and insisted I would like it. He was right. On the palate, this wine has elegant bubbles and refreshing flavors of delicate red berries and white fruits.
More recently I’ve been studying up on different wines and spirits to expand my palate. In researching Ruffino Sparkling Rosé it’s noted to be an elegant and stylish Italian sparkling wine made primarily from the Glera grape, which is used in all Prosecco wines, blended with Pinot Noir. The Glera grape gives the wine structure and body, and the Pinot Noir provides the wine with a beautiful rose hue. Because of its extra-dry style makes it easy to enjoy, and its bright fruit flavors and delicate bubbles make it perfect for enjoying a beverage before a meal or to pair with a variety of dishes such as grilled fish, roasted chicken, and mixed greens salads.
The Ruffino Sparkling Rosé was a huge hit. The ladies asked me where they could pick up a bottle of these wine. I picked my bottle from Food Life Chicago while I was at the Chicago Water Tower shopping. However, the Ruffino Sparkling Rosé can be picked up at Target and other restaurant locations. When consuming Ruffino Sparkling Rosé or any other spirits please do so responsibly.

As for what I’m wearing. I recently returned back from St. Louiswhere I attended Honey Child’s boutique #CRAZYSEXYCURVESHCBlive look book event. While there I snatched up this fabulous pleated sheer maxi right off Honey Child’s runway. Staying true to my whimsical style I paired the skirt with a mesh top as a way to display my Nike Victory Bra. Fluffed my big hair under my turban and Wala! A sports theme jeannie. Plus size edition of course.
I first attended my first Grits and Biscuitsparty in 2015 and I’ve been in attendance ever since. It gets better and better every year. The first time I went I went alone. Year two my friend and her sister joined me. This year year three those two came again along with their partners. It’s great to come together with close friends and former classmates to dance to your favorite sings current and pasted. The idea of peaceful partying never changes but the music evolves and I’m here for it!
Ladies I writing this post for you. Many attend this event for the first time and make mistakes that I’m here to help with. Here’s a few of don’t for Grits and Biscuits:
Don’t wear heels – People come to dance and heels won’t cut it.
Wear loose fitting clothes – Bodycon are super sexy however when dudes start bumping and grinding that dress might end up over your head, lol.
Don’t get your hear done – Save your coins because your curls won’t last.
Warm up – You don’t want to hear “Drop lock and pop it” and then you can’t unlock it once you’ve popped it.
Don’t over pour – The music and the crowd’s body heat will have any person who’s had a little to much wasted fast.
Don’t get made with a random dances on you – It’s a party it’ll happen. Just move to the side and don’t make a scene.
.
.
You can easily see people of all ages and races shoulder to shoulder shaking it fast.
In Chicago the party is held at the House of Blues
When you walk in you’re given a Grits and Biscuits “church fan”. They’re gold so hold on to it because you’ll need it!

Chicagoans are far from shy when it comes to bragging about themselves. We don’t even know how to even hashtag humble brag. Chicago has produced some of the best of the best. I’m not the type that just throws out names but a few modern day change makers do come to mind. Oprah, Kanye, Jennifer Hudson, Chance The Rapper, Michelle Obama and her husband, my forever President, Barack Obama.
thefatgirloffashion looks to be added to the list of Chicago greats. Staying true to myself is very important. Fashion and beauty allow me to express myself without words. When I was trying to blend in I was silencing myself. That was one of the worst mistakes I’ve ever made. Blogging has shown me that I speak for so many women around the world. Like me they don’t wear a crop top to work or a super short skirt to church. We know how to switch up based on the situation we’re going to be in. However, As a plus size authority I do know that I can switch up my style and not worry about what others think.
I love mixing prints. I love adding a pop of color. I love being me. Fashion allows me to be the bold, funny and carefree fat girl. Yes, sometimes I get looks. *insert neck roll* lol. People can look but just don’t touch And if someone has something to say please believe they’ll catch these words, lol.
As one of a very small group of women in the Chicago plus size blogger niche I respect the great authority my voice has. Being born and raised in Chicago I’m stopped on the street by women all the time. Classmates, old friends and blog readers say fun things like I love the dress you had on Instagram or you have great eyebrows. We have more serious chats about self esteem or weight issues. I’m happy that thefatgirloffashion offers fashion and beauty advised with a message.
1) You’re a carefree fat girl if you’ve ever been minding your on business and someone had something to say about what you were wearing. And you responded with “If it comes in my size I’m going to wear it!
2) If you own a fatkini and live for the Summertime. Then all signs point to you being a carefree fat girl.
3) You see another plus size cutie looking super fly and you don’t hate on her; instead you show her love. You’re a true carefree fat girl.
4) If you’re been trolled by a fat-shammer on social media and you blocked them without breaking a sweat then you’re a carefree fat girl.
5) You make sure you spend time with other plus size girls. You make sure to go to all the plus size kick backs. If you’ve ever been to theCurvyCon than you’re definitely a carefree fat girl.
