summer movies in the park thefatgirloffashion.com

We had a blast last year for movie in the park.  It was important that I share the free movie series with fellow Chicagoans and city visitors again this year.  I’ll plan on going to a few.  Be sure to follow my Twitter @FatGirl_Fashion or Snapchat @Fatgirl_fashion to see what movies I’m going to see so we can meet up.  All films are FREE and made possible by the Millennium Park Foundation. The Summer Film Series is co-curated with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE).

All films are free and start at 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday* night at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion at 201 E. Randolph St.  Seating at the pavilion is first-come, first-served, or seat under the stars on the pavilion’s Great Lawn.  Bring your blankets, snacks, and favorite bottle of wine.  Screenings begin June 13th and runs though September 5th.  All movies will be presented on a state-of-the-art, 40-foot LED screen.   Schedule is subject to change.

#PlusInPastel | Curvy girls wear that too!

Plus in pastel 2

Pastel colors are usually described as “soothing”, “soft”, “near neutral”, “milky”, “washed out”, “desaturated”, and lacking strong chromatic content.  Pink, mauve, and baby blue are typical pastel colors.  Often times plus size women feel that they can’t wear pastels and choose to stick to black.  Here are 5 quick tips to wearing pastel for the plus size girl ready to step out their box.

I worn this pastel dress with silver.  Silver or gray goes great with the muted colors.

Pastel works well with bright colors.   This would great time to add playful accessories.

Use pastel as your pop of color by pairing pastel with neutral colors.  Try wearing pastel jeans with a nude top and shoe.

Wearing two or three pastel colors together is a great look.

You can also wear one pastel color in different shades.  That’s a great way to rock the Spring style.

#FATGIRLmagic

#fatgirlmagic 1“ I’m not pretty for a big girl.  I’m pretty period.” _ thefatgirloffashion

.

.

#FatGirlMagic is a real thing!  I see women of size slaying daily.   I wanted to offer my take on this magical wave.  My core style has always been whimsical so this look is how I feel in my head all the time.  Some women may say “I don’t have the confidence.”  I say put of your crown and work your magic.

I say this in all my post.  I’m cheerleader for women wearing what they want.  It doesn’t have to be a two piece swimsuit it could be that bodycon you have in the closet that you’ve never worn.  Or those jeans you love but feel people might stare.   At the end of the day you must do what’s best for you.  Make yourself happy.  It’s just clothes you’ll have on something completely different tomorrow.

Use the hashtag #FatGirlMagic to be featured on thefatgirloffashion’s Facebook Page.  Show the world that beautiful, creative, sexy and bold plus size women aren’t unicorns.  We can be found in every city everywhere living life to the fullest.

Style Inspired By Blossom

Blossom is 90’s sitcom that made a huge influence on me.  Blossom was very imaginative and had an opinion about almost everything.  Just like me.  Blossom wasn’t your average girl, either, and that’s what made her special. She was quirky, had cool fashion sense and was very relatable.

My parent separated around the same time the show came out.  The show made divorce normal.  I saw a girl like me dealing with the same issue I was going though.  A lot of her feeling were my feelings.

A lot of my favorite childhood TVs show come though in my current clothing chooses.  What’s your favorite 90’s TV show.  Which one is your biggest fashion influence?

The Heart Part 4 | My Summer Anthem

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES“My spot is solidified if you ask me.” _ Kendrick Lamar (The Heart Part 4)

.

.

I’m here for Kendrick Lamar’s The Heart Part 4!!  He’s giving me everything I need for a true hip out track.  He delivers word play, flow, beats, the facts.  K-Dot ends the track basically saying  you little rappers had your time and now let me remind you I am the greatest.  I need this.  I needed this motivation!  When I’m sliding on my crop tops and two piece swimsuits this is what I’ll be listening to.

Don’t tell a lie on me
I won’t tell the truth ’bout you
Don’t tell a lie on me
I won’t tell the truth ’bout you

Don’t lie about me when I can tell the world the truth about you.

Tiptoein’ around my name, xxxxx, ya lame
And when I get at you, homie, don’t you just tell me you was just playin’

People will low key talk about you and then say they’re just kidding and was hating.

My spot is solidified if you ask me (What else?)
My name is identified as “that king”
I’ll let y’all worry about a list, I’m on some other shit

What God has for me, no one can affect it.  I’m blessed.  I’ll let you wonder about who’s better because I have more important thing to do.

I encourage you to listen to this hip hop blessing!  What do you listen to when you’re getting ready to go hang with your girls?  What’s your turn up song?  What song motivates you?

In Memory Of Risky Business

memory 4“ In a room full of failures, I feel out of place.” _ Rick Ross (Apple of My Eye)

.

.

Risky Business

Risky Business is an 80’s coming of age romantic comedy about a Chicago teenager is looking for fun at home while his parents are away, but the situation quickly gets out of hand.  When I tried in this shirt dress I had a major urge to slide across my living room floor.

As a plus size body positive blogger I’m cheerleader for women wearing what they want.  I do myself at times question how does an outfit look on me.  How will this outfit on me appear to others.  The shirt dress was one of those times.  Will people think I’m nude?  Will people think where are her pants.  I had to take a step back and become my own cheerleader.

Being your own cheerleader will give you confidence.  The confidence to step out with your head held high knowing that you’re beautiful just the way you are. What risky fashion have you been scared to wear?

“The reality is that retailers need to sign up partners and collaborators in order to bring foot traffic as well as to create a positive halo effect,” Marc Beckman, chief executive of DMA United said. “They’re not doing these collaborations to generate meaningful revenue or growth — at all. It’s to bring customers into the door.”  With that being said for the first time plus-size product from a designer collaboration will be available in-store (while not all Target locations will carry the collection in plus sizes, each item will be available in the full size range on Target.com). Typically, plus sizes are only available online.  Let’s just hope the stores have more than one item and the Target site doesn’t crash like it has in the past.  The collection will be available April 9 through April 30, 2017, or while supplies last, at all Target stores and Target.com, with select pieces available for global shoppers via Victoria Beckham site victoriabeckham.com.
