Today Gabi release her latest collections with Swimsuits for all.  The theme of this collection I would call “Queen of the jungle” was inspired by Destiny’s Child’s Survivor and I’m here for it.  There are 4 bikinis, 4 one-pieces, and 2 coverups style dress with bold designs, beautiful colors, and lots of metallics.  This 2018 GabiXSwimSuitsForAll collection is giving me everything I need with this new styles.  Below I have added the visuals for the collection release.  Please note that photos are all from the Gabifresh website.

Gabi has clearly hit it out the park again and this collection will sell out.  My personal thoughts on purchasing based on having shopped past collections.  Size up in the tops.  I noticed in the past two collections the tops ran small.  With that being said I love that the 2 pieces swimwear options are sold together but you can order different sizes for the top and bottom.  The bottoms I find run true to size.  I would say for the one piece swimwear to size up also.  Many have built-in bra features similar to the two-piece tops in which the cups run small.  Lastly, if you’re swimwear shy the coverups are a great option.  They offer a great bang for your buck.  Based on the style purchased I’ve worn them alone as a “dress” or as kimono style top with shorts or jeans.  The coverups tend to run true to size.  Gabi has mentioned before, if you’re between suit sizes, she recommends getting the larger size.

When I first so this tweet it tickled me pink.  I taught at this Gabi isn’t dropping the collection out the blue like Beyonce.  With that said I’ve ordered a few pieces.  And I already have photo shoot ideas.

Gabi’s latest collections with Swimsuitsforall comes off the heels of two other very successful fashion ventures in 2017.  Gabi first jumped feet first into the plus-size lingerie arena.  In collaboration with Playful Promises we saw Gabi designed a plus-size lingerie collection (Get more information on the GabiXPlayfulPromises lingerie line here).  The moment the line drop it easily took over social media.  Next Gabi and her longtime friend Nicolette Mason release Premme.  With Premme they joined forces to create a fashion company that shows clothing should be about expressing your personality and having fun, not feeling limited by society’s current fashion rules.

ELOQUII’S EXCITING NEWS

Today Eloquii dropped some exciting news on the plus community today.  As we see retailers of all kinds scaling down Eloquii announces they are expanding.  Eloquii a New YYork and Columbus, OH based plus size clothing brand announced via social media that throughout the upcoming year they will offer all their clothes in more expansive sizes.

By the Fall of this year, every collection they launch will be available in size 26 and 28.  Currently, Eloquii only offers select pieces in those sizes.  There’s nothing worst than seeing an item you just have to have and then going to the size drop down not seeing your size offered.  Plus size women that are 26-28 now know Eloquii is a go to space for them.

Eloquii also announced they are now servicing plus sizes 30 and 32.  With there only being a handful of places for women in this size range to shop this a loud and clear message that Eloqii is stepping into the forefront of plus size fashion.

This tweet speaks directly to me.  For many brands that claim to services the plus size community only offer styles up to size 20.  Or the clothes are made for one body type.  Hourglass with a flat stomach.  This leaves many longing for fashionable looks in our size.  I thank Eloquii listening to their faithful customers and opening up fashion options to women of larger sizes.

The new size options Elqouii is planning for 2018 is on the heels of XOQ opening 3 brick and mortar stores in 2017.  The first store opened was at Fashion Centre in D.C., the next opened was in my hometown of Chicago at The Shops at North Bridge, and the latest store opened was at Easton Town Center in Columbus, Ohio.  I can’t wait to see what else Eloquii has in store for the plus size community.

Chicago Restaurant Week 2018 | #CRW18

Chicago Restaurant Week 2018 returns on January 26 and continues through February 8 with two weeks of dining deals.  The Chicago food scene is as diverse as the people of Chicago.  The restaurants participating span the Chicagoland area.  Different Chicago neighborhoods including downtown and suburbs.  The dining choices include Italian, French, Spanish, Chinese just to name a few.  This is your time to go to your favorite spot or just new places like I am.  The restaurants should provide you with their special Restaurant Week Menu.  If the servers fails to give you one, simply request the special menu.  The annual culinary celebration features special prix fixe menus starting at $22 for brunch or lunch, and $33 and/or $44 for dinner (excluding beverages, tax, and gratuity).

 

Since Chicago beats to it’s own drum Chicago’s Restaurant Week is not going to be just 7 days but being held over 14 days.  Chicago Restaurant Week will be kicked off on January 25th with the First Bites Bash being held at Aon Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier.  The First Bites Bash will be hosted by Lee Wolen executive chef and partner of Boka restaurant in Lincoln Park with a portion of the proceeds will benefit Greater Chicago Food Depository. with a portion of the proceeds will benefit Greater Chicago Food Depository.  Organized by the city of Chicago’s official tourism organization Choose Chicago; Chicago Restaurant Week will be inviting visitors and locals to dine January 26th and continues through February 8th.

These two weeks will prove to be a foodie’s paradise.  I’ve already made my reservations.  I’m excited to review 6 new restaurants.  I’ve chosen restaurants I’ve never visited and I encourage you to also.  The 11th annual Chicago Restaurant Week will have many restaurants that are 4 or 5 stars participating.  I’ve included a link to the full list here.  Please look over the many locations and their special menus before making your reservations during Chicago Restaurant Week.

With over 370 restaurants taking part (including 115 new participants for 2018!), you can get a taste of Chicago’s restaurant scene: Italian, French, Spanish, Chinese and more! Between the neighborhood favorites and downtown hotspots, you can feast on delicious multi-course menus all across the city and suburbs.

11 YEARS OF AFROBELLA | ORS CELEBRATES PATRICE YURSIK

I attended the ORS Olive Oil hosted Dinner Party celebrating The 11th Anniversary of the Godmother of Brown Beauty Blogging Patrice Grell Yursik better known as Afrobella.  She said she started blogging to fill a void and to celebrate the inner and outer beauty of women all shades of beautiful.  Her award-winning blog shines a loving light on natural hair and the wonderfully wide range of gorgeous skin tones and sizes women come in and has been featured in Essence, Ebony, and Glamour.  In 2011 Afrobella partnered with MAC Cosmetics to create her own custom lipglass called “All Of My Purple Life,” part of the Bloggers’ Obsession collection.  With all her continued success Patrice always displays humbleness and class.  I’m personally lucky to know such a beautiful person.  Many including myself look at her as blog goals.  Congratulations on 11 years of doing what you love!!

The blogiversary dinner was simply beautiful.  The #NoStereotypes themed dinner featured one-on-one conversation with Shawn Tollerson, CEO of Namaste Laboratories and Afrobella.  They shared stories and experiences on black beauty.   Afrobella spoke on how she uses her platform to defy stereotypes of beauty.  As guests, we were encouraged to embrace who they are, their sense of style and self-expression and share it unapologetically with the world.

The event took place at Blanc Gallery Chicago in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood with dinner provided by Chef Cliff Rome of Rome’s Joy Catering.   A special tribute performance to guests was provided by Gifted Keys and music by DJ MJTheBeautifulBeat!  All with the “Farewell 44” artwork as a backdrop.

 

 

ORS continues to innovate new products for the versatile woman who is comfortable in her own skin and defines her own style through self-expression.  At the dinner, ORS unveiled the ‘first look’ of their new refresh packaging and reformulated products which include Sheen Spray and its Edge Control.  The new products will be available in stores like Walgreens, Target, and Sally Beauty in February/March of 2018.

Jaivon’s Top 3 Picks from #CHITAG2017 Plus A Couple Bonuses

Family time is always a great time.  Chicago Navy pier was all fun and games for Chicago Toy And Game Fair aka ChiTAG.  ChiTag is North America’s largest Toy and Game Fair.  In it’s 15 year ChiTag was a ton of fun not only for my 5 year old nephew but for me as well.  So many different people attend ChiTag from toy/game inventors & designers to gamers of all ages of play along with families.  Not to mention Chicago media like myself.

At ChiTag we were able to review, play with and test the hottest toys and games from around the world your family, friends and other attendees like Legos playsets, Build or Boom, Shark Bite, Catch the Fox, Rummikub Twist, Fish Food, all new Doggie Doo, Greedy Granny, Ultra Dash, Marbleocity, Automoblox, Magformers, Tileblox, Clicformers, Ice Cool, King Frog, Reef Route, Woo-Hoo, Flower Fairies, Peter Rabbit Secret Garden, 8-Bit Art Mario and many more! This post is child focused with my nephew, Jaivon, picking his 3 favorite from things from ChiTag 2017.  S/N Ben’s Bubble Show is always my favorite!

 

 

 

  1. Spin Master’s life size Soggy Doggy Game.  Jaivon was so happy when he saw the big soggy doggy.  I’ll be honest my eyes lite up also.  I recently gave Jaivon so to see the game at the toy fair made me happy.  Jaivon love playing the Soggy Doggy Game at home and jumped at the chance to play the life size version.  Soggy Doggy is the showering, shaking, wet doggy game! Where you move your players around the board and take turns bathing this pup. But you have to be careful! Soggy Doggy loves to shake himself dry. If Soggy Doggy shakes all over you, wipe yourself off and head back to the start. The first one around the board wins!  We love playing it and you can get yours here. 

 

 

2. Oral Health America.  Oral health wasn’t toy based so I was a little shocked that Jaivon wanted to visit their booth.  He saw the teeth and said I brush my teeth every day to keep them clean.  I was like ok, lol.  Even at his young age he knows the importance of oral health.  The nice people at the OHA booth gave him a coloring sheet that he was able to color.  He was happy to use his favorite color which is red.  It took a village to snap this picture so it’s going up on Facebook!

3. Star Wars lunch. As you can see Jaivon was amazed by all the Star Wars characters.  He was about to play with him and take pictures.  He said “WOW!  Grandma we’re in a movie.”  The lunch was very nice.  Besides the great meal it was great seeing how happy Jaivon was while playing with the other children and toys at the Star Wars lunch.  He very happy to go with a Paw Patrol activity tin and Star Wars Monopoly.   Clearly a win win for Jaivon!

Bonus – Fun with new friends!  Chicago Toy and Game Fair gives child a chance to pay with children they might normally meet in their neighbor or school.  I love that the children were freely playing with each other.  One mom said to me “I know my son is happy yo be here because there is only girls at home.  Her son and my nephew played like they were best friends at the Uno booth for at least 30 mins.  Uno attack game was a big hit at the fair for us and will be under our tree for Christmas.

Bonus – Santa!  Santa even in balloon form is always a great sight to see.  The balloon Santa moved and danced.  Jaivon got a chance to tell Santa he’s been a good boy all year.

With it getting more chilly outside and coat is a needs.  I attend many events and I want to look stylish while out.  Who wants to hand a ugly coat to coat check?!  Not me, lol.  I mean a coat can make or break an look.  When I first saw the ELOQUII x Katie Sturino Tie Waist Robe Coat I know I had a winner.  Eloquii has some many fabulous coats that I’m in love with so I’ve created a coat wish list.

We took a classic trench coat and updated it with some chic color blocking and strategically placed buttons to give it a military feel. The perfect layer for transitional weather, you can pair yours with just about anything in your closet and still maintain a put-together look with a structured silhouette.  The tailored fit front button-up closure comes with front hip pockets.

People often say what a difference a day makes.  When it comes to Chicago weather what a difference a minute makes.  My city is known for its extremely cold weather.  Harsh winds and mounts of snow pretty much sum up Chicago winters.  One can easily get in the habit of throwing on tons of clothes just to stay warm.  I have found a coat that offers form and function.  That’s saying a lot from a girl born and raised in Chicago.  I’ve seen a lot of winter coats come and go.  This ASOS parka is here to stay!

PLUS SIZE COATS – Detachable faux-fur Coat

This plus-size coat by ASOS CURVE is so clutch.  It’s everything a girl needs to stay warm during the cold weather season.  It feels like I’m walking around with a blanket on and I love it!  Below are some of the highlights from this teddy bear of a coat.

This coat is great for cold-weather cities like Chicago. There isn’t a need to double or triple up like I’ve done in the past with other coats.  I wanted to also note that this coat is stylish.  The coat I’m wearing is a size 18.  I could have gone down one size for a slimmer fit, however, I can easily add a large sweater under my current one without an issue.

PLUS SIZE COATS – CAMI

The white top I’m wearing is a ribbed jersey Similar Cami with a scoop neck from the tall section of ASOS.  It comes with cami straps and deep scoop back with press-stud fastening underneath.  I love bodysuits.  They look great on me.  I like how they offer a seamless look when paired with jeans or skirts.  I’m wearing a straight size tall 16.  The fit was ok I wish I would have gone down a size for a more close-cut bodycon fit that is ideal.  Oh did I mention this cami are currently on sale for under $10!

PLUS SIZE COATS – BOYFRIEND JEANS

ASOS CURVE’S Similar distressed Boyfriend Jean in Lillian with Rips and Stepped Hem is my new best friend.  The style is so on-trend and the fit is flattering for my shape.  They are currently on sale for under $30 dollars.  The available sizing is currently up to a 24.  I’m wearing a size 18.  I could have done a 16 but I’m not upset with my 18.  My only complaint is that they only came in the one color because I love them so much!  See below for more details on the jeans.

PLUS SIZE COATS – CROSSBODY

I pulled the whole look together with my red Steve madden crossbody worn as a fanny pack.  The one I have on is not available however Madden has a newer version called W-LEADER.  The W-LEADER bag looks like the Gucci’s GG Marmont matelassé leather belt bag social media has been going crazy over.  I added my go-to leather booties.  Everyone knows my look wouldn’t be complete with a bold lippie.  I have on one of my favorite reds from M.A.C. called Feel So Grand.  The chain I have on is an oldie but a goodie.  I wasn’t able to find a dupe in time for this post.  When I do I’ll be sure to share it on my Instastories so be sure that you’re following me on Instagram.  Watching my Instastories gets you behind the scenes at events and links to deals and steals (hint hint Black Friday deals are coming soon!)

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year but I’m a real scary cat when it comes to haunted houses and things like that.  I don’t even watch scary movies.  I’ve been covering my eyes since Freddy Krueger appeared on the screen in Nightmare on Elm Street. Nonetheless, I attended an exclusive preview media event at the Dungeon of Doom with my blogger boo Keyonda of arealurbanmom.

Dungeon of Doom is located at 600 29th Zion, IL.  It’s Chicago and Milwaukee’s leading haunted house.  Dungeon of Doom is a 60-minute walk thru haunt.  This year’s haunt features “Buried Dead or Alive,” “The sacrifice – Tomb of Doom” and other new attractions.   

What was I thinking?!! Clearly, they’re out for blood as they prepare to kick off the Halloween season of fear.  Dungeon of Doom is back and ready to deliver a bone-chilling experience that is out of this world.  I didn’t make it through even with Keyonda’s help, lol.

Dungeon of Doom has amped-up their technology, theatrics, special effects and killer team to inflict an hour of horror and terror as attendees travel through 42,000 square feet of pure chaos.  With new and improved attractions and a chance to be buried alive, this is the place where nightmares loom.

Your opportunity to endure this haunting experience starts September 23 – thru November 4.  General admission tickets start at $25.  For those looking for the ultimate adventure, there are thrills like the Escape Room.  The Escape Room has attendees trapped in a Time Machine and within 45 minutes they must break out to a new world to save time and humanity.  Escape Room is sold as a separate add-on ticket experience. Plus there are VIP and season passes that are all available online here.

Hades Boiler Room is a place where scare-enthusiasts can encounter industrial-grade terror in the shadowy depths of their worst nightmares. This hellish sub-level amid a maze of bursting corroded pipes drip water as pressure gauges indicate an impending explosion of boiling death just waiting to steam-cook anyone at any moment.

Slaughter House Mania is a gory gallery of butchered flesh and dead carcasses where participants are at risk of ending up on the chopping block! The only thing more terrifying than the sharp meat hooks, bone saws and razor-sharp cleavers found here are the man-eating killers who wield these deadly weapons.
