Gabi Fresh has released her latest collections with Swimsuits For All.  This Spring collection is called “Power Play.” With the backdrop of the iconic Santa Monica Pier and beach, the campaign stars Gabi alongside a cast of nine enthusiastic fans.  This spring release has a total of 11 pieces.  Five 2 piece bikinis, 4 one-pieces, 1 coverups style dress and 1 shirt with bold designs and is full of beautiful bright colors.  Please note that photos are all from the Swimsuits For All website.

Gabi has clearly hit it out the park again and this collection will sell out.  My personal thoughts are I love love love love this collection.  It speaks to my whimsical glam style and I’ve already purchased a few pieces.  I can wait to rock this looks!

Like Rachel Roy, I’m thankful I grew up the way I did.  It made me a hard worker and insightful to other people’s lives.  I was raised to say please and thank you.  To be kind to others.  To work hard and it will pay off.  I’m a firm believer in supporting those who support you.  I’m grateful for everyone who takes the time to read my blog, like my content on Instagram as well as sharing it on Facebook. It means the world to me.  On the heels of my collaboration post on plus size spring trends.  I now present to you the perfect spring suit.

First off I must say these suit is giving me all the feelings.  I’m feeling powerful, beautiful, sexy, confident, and of course a woman.  Oh yeah, I will so comfortable.  The design of this suit is everything I needed.  It’s a perfect combination of form and function.  In other words, it’s a modern-day power suit!

Rachel Roy designed floral-print sailor blazer and matching printed jogger pants have a beautiful wispy, watercolor florals print.  The blazer enlivens this polished overlay, styled with a solid shawl collar and functional flap pockets.  The blazer design also includes a single-button closure, buttoned cuffs, and hits at the hip.  The printed jogger pants flaunt a high-style look and styled with a banded hem and contrasting panels at the sides.  The joggers are mid rise; straight fit through hips and thighs; straight leg.  They also include a front zipper closure and my favorite thing in the whole world, pockets!!!

I know everyone is not comfortable with print on print.  This look can be easily worn separately.  The sailor blazer can be paired with a tee and jeans for a perfect brunch look.  I choose to wear heels but the jogger pants can be worn with some tennies and a blouse for a Sunday Funday look.

Loft Now Has Plus Sizes Available | Here’s What We Know!

This Is Us (The show that gives me all the feelings I never knew I had) star Chrissy Metz gave us an early look at Loft’s plus-size collection when she wore a pretty polka-dot dress while promoting the show.  Now for the rest of us, the wait is over.  Plus sizes are now formally available in at Ann Taylor’s Loft.

Here are some fast facts about Loft’s plus line

♦ Loft plus sizes are available in 7 product categories.

♦ Loft is not charging a fat tax (Prices do not increase for plus size items when the same item is available in smaller sizes).

♦Loft stores will take plus size online purchases returns in-stores (Per website 2/5/2018).

♦Loft’s plus size range is size 16 to size 26 (All items are not available in all sizes).

If you have concerns about fit.  Loft has a fit guide you can find here.  The fit guide features sections on tops, dresses, skirts, pants, jeans, and jackets & blazers.  I first tried the loft plus brand through Gwynnie Bee this past September.  I must say the pants I tried were definitely Loft quality.  You can read my review here.

Now that the brand plus sizes has launched here are some things I need from Loft to welcome plus-size women such as myself to the brand.  Have plus sizes in store!  Make it clear on the website which stores carry plus sizes in-store.  As a plus size woman I’m aware many brands don’t carry plus sizes in every store but I’m not comfortable supporting lines that have brick and mortar stores but choose to make plus sizes online only.  Also, keep the plus size styles the same as the straight size line.  We love Loft for the loft ready to wear polished work style so don’t change for women with a larger waistline.  I would like to see plus size women of large sizes and varies shapes on your social media.  Body positive isn’t just hourglass women that are size 14 or 16.  We don’t want the plus line to turn pullover tops, stretch pants and leggings.  In looking at the first collection Loft is off to a great start!  Here are few pieces I’m loving from the launch.

 Universal Thread | Target’s Denim Line

Last year, Target aka ‘Tar-zhay’ gave us A New Day which offers trendy styles and athleisure with Joylab.  I personally love both labels.  So when I heard Target was creating a denim line I was very open for it.  So let me introduce you to that line, Universal Thread. Universal Thread is Target’s new women’s lifestyle brand focused on denim and their first private label launch of 2018. Universal Thread wants to be a staple in women’s closet, especially within the plus community.  This newly added line is the capper to the other plus friendly line’s carried at Target such Ava & Viv and Who What Wear.

Universal Thread brand includes tops, dresses, accessories, and shoes with prices ranging from $5 to about $40.  The new label will service sizes starting at 00 and run through 26W.  This is the first time Target has launched a brand with this large of a range.  Mark Tritton, Target’s executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, said: “Universal Thread is a denim-centric collection fit for all body types.”  Target says jeans are making a comeback as women now look to diversify their wardrobes beyond leggings.  I agree with him.  I find it refreshing to have an exclusive women’s lifestyle brand offering denim.

In developing Universal Thread, Target said they research with nearly 1,000 women from across the country to better understand their needs when it comes to shopping denim.  (I wish they would have reached out to me, lol.)  Target heard from nearly all of them was that they dreaded shopping for new jeans.  Whether the rise was too long or the inseam was too short or the pair of jeans they wanted didn’t come in their size—finding the perfect fit for their body type was just too challenging. That’s a problem Target wanted to solve.

My thoughts on the Universal Thread:  It is great to have another option for denim.  I’m wearing a pair of the Universal Thread jean in the Mid-Rise Curvy Skinny style.  They in the color indigo and size 18 long.  These Mid-Rise Curvy Skinnies are from the straight size line of the brand.  In the pair, I’m wearing size 18 is the largest of the “straight size” sizes.  These jeans fit very well.  They have great stretch.  Depending on what shoes I’m wearing I could have gone with a regular and not a long but the long works also.  As a petite plus size blogger is great to see Target offering Universal Thread in different height ranges as well as extended sizes.  I feel they are excellently made.  Even though parts of the jeans are made from recycled plastic bottles they don’t look used or damage at all.  I didn’t know I was missing my new favorite jeans from my wardrobe until I tried this on.

As a confirmed bachelorette when days like Valentine day comes around I make sure to treat myself to something special.  I know a lot of girls will be showing off gifts they’ve purchased themselves aka “doing it for the gram” and claiming it’s from their man.  I’m here to say be honest.  In the words of the great Donna Marie Meagle of Parks and Recreation “Treat Yo Self!” and know it’s ok to do so.

The Single Girl’s Valentine day gift guide will focus on 3 of my favorite things.  The first item will be dresses.  Dresses are an easy way to celebrate yourself and show your personality.  The second will be lingerie.  I’m a huge fan lingerie.  As a single woman, I personally wear lingerie for myself often.  It’s a great way to spice up an outlook.  Lastly purses.  Purses as an accessory are my go-to way to take a look to the next level.

 The guide’s color wheelhouse is red and pink.  Both colors have long been associated with Valentine’s day.  Red is the color of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love. Red is a very emotionally intense color. It enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate, and raises blood pressure.  Pink is the English word for a color often called rosa in Italian, German and Spanish. A color named after the most romantic flower must have something to do with Valentine’s Day! Pink is created by mixing red and white, making it a purer form of the lusty red.

ELOQUII’S EXCITING NEWS

Today Eloquii dropped some exciting news on the plus community today.  As we see retailers of all kinds scaling down Eloquii announces they are expanding.  Eloquii a New YYork and Columbus, OH based plus size clothing brand announced via social media that throughout the upcoming year they will offer all their clothes in more expansive sizes.

By the Fall of this year, every collection they launch will be available in size 26 and 28.  Currently, Eloquii only offers select pieces in those sizes.  There’s nothing worst than seeing an item you just have to have and then going to the size drop down not seeing your size offered.  Plus size women that are 26-28 now know Eloquii is a go to space for them.

Eloquii also announced they are now servicing plus sizes 30 and 32.  With there only being a handful of places for women in this size range to shop this a loud and clear message that Eloqii is stepping into the forefront of plus size fashion.

This tweet speaks directly to me.  For many brands that claim to services the plus size community only offer styles up to size 20.  Or the clothes are made for one body type.  Hourglass with a flat stomach.  This leaves many longing for fashionable looks in our size.  I thank Eloquii listening to their faithful customers and opening up fashion options to women of larger sizes.

The new size options Elqouii is planning for 2018 is on the heels of XOQ opening 3 brick and mortar stores in 2017.  The first store opened was at Fashion Centre in D.C., the next opened was in my hometown of Chicago at The Shops at North Bridge, and the latest store opened was at Easton Town Center in Columbus, Ohio.  I can’t wait to see what else Eloquii has in store for the plus size community.

2018 Travel And Event Wishlist

When I created ULTIMATE BUCKET LIST OF PLUS SIZE EVENTS in which I was simply outlining events that plus sizes girls could attend.  I didn’t know so many would reach out and thank me for shining a light on what plus size events are out there.  Plus note a 2018 listing is coming soon!

This year I’ll be personal been venturing outside of those events to others that caught my eye last year to attend this one.  Of course, London for fashion week is a big trip for me but that’s not the only place I plan on going this year.  I’m listing a few places and events in hopes that if you’re able to attend we could connect as a show of plus size force.

 

I sometimes suffer from a major case of FOMO (fear of missing out).  Social media hasn’t helped with my condition.  With that being said I want to say live your best life.  Don’t look at what others are doing and think less of yourself because you can’t do.  I talk a lot about travel and the importance of attending certain events for the following reasons.

First, it’s important to get out and experience life.  When I started traveling I personally improved as a person.  When you see how others live you learn a lot about yourself.  You can go to the next state over and at times be in a whole new world.  Leave your local area and expand your memories.

Second, when I was child the only family trips I can really remember were trips “down south” to places like Missippissi.  My mother as a single woman raising three children on her own on a minimum wage job didn’t have expendable income to go on weeks-long trips across the world.  I understand money is a factor.  With that being said if you’re able to get a babysitter for the weekend TREAT YOURSELF.  As I saw my mother working so hard day after day I don’t think I would have felt any kind of way if she would have went away for the weekend with her girls.

These events may not be for you but they’re on my wish list.  Whether you go with my list or do your own thing just do it!  Remember planning in advance and setting a budget is everything!!!!

img_0366VC POLO CLASSIC – I’m for any reason to pop champagne and this event is a very instagramable reason too!  Veuve Clicquot’s bi-annual celebration of polo and champagne is held in New York and Los Angeles.  I plan on attending the New York event on June 2, 2018.  Ticketing information is currently not available however you can find out more information on the overall VC Polo Classic event here.

img_0367Essence Festival – America’s Biggest Celebration Of Black Women Is Back!  Described as “the party with a purpose” and was the backdrop for 2017 hit movie “Girls Trips”.  The event offers music, beauty brands pop-ups, meetups and self-love overload, lol.  Essence holds their annual festival at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.  This event This years event will run July 5-8, 2018.  For tickets and additional information here.

img_0368Crop Over Festival – Barbados crop over Monday,  June 25 and ends early August.  At the end of the Crop Over Festival in Barbados ends a spectacular Carnival/Kadooment Parade happens.  This event celebrates the ending of the local Sugar Cane harvest, and is distinctly unique from the Carnival festivities in other Caribbean countries.  The big Carnival/Kadooment parade always takes place the first Monday in August. Therefore this year’s parade will be on 6th August.    Another Caribbean themed event I’m interested in attending is the Toronto carnival known as Caribana. Caribana Weekend 2018 will take place Thursday, August 2nd – Monday, August 6th 2018.   What a decision?!

img_0369Art Basel – Art Basel is an international art fair with three shows staged annually in Basel, Switzerland; Miami Beach, Florida; and Hong Kong.  I plan on shaking the Chicago cold for to Miami beaches.  This year’s Art Basel Miami event takes place December 6 – 9, 2018 at Miami Beach Convention Center.  However, there’s so many events happen like pop-up art shows, music concerts, and fashion shows if I can’t attend the official “Art Basel” I can still live it up.

11 YEARS OF AFROBELLA | ORS CELEBRATES PATRICE YURSIK

I attended the ORS Olive Oil hosted Dinner Party celebrating The 11th Anniversary of the Godmother of Brown Beauty Blogging Patrice Grell Yursik better known as Afrobella.  She said she started blogging to fill a void and to celebrate the inner and outer beauty of women all shades of beautiful.  Her award-winning blog shines a loving light on natural hair and the wonderfully wide range of gorgeous skin tones and sizes women come in and has been featured in Essence, Ebony, and Glamour.  In 2011 Afrobella partnered with MAC Cosmetics to create her own custom lipglass called “All Of My Purple Life,” part of the Bloggers’ Obsession collection.  With all her continued success Patrice always displays humbleness and class.  I’m personally lucky to know such a beautiful person.  Many including myself look at her as blog goals.  Congratulations on 11 years of doing what you love!!

The blogiversary dinner was simply beautiful.  The #NoStereotypes themed dinner featured one-on-one conversation with Shawn Tollerson, CEO of Namaste Laboratories and Afrobella.  They shared stories and experiences on black beauty.   Afrobella spoke on how she uses her platform to defy stereotypes of beauty.  As guests, we were encouraged to embrace who they are, their sense of style and self-expression and share it unapologetically with the world.

The event took place at Blanc Gallery Chicago in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood with dinner provided by Chef Cliff Rome of Rome’s Joy Catering.   A special tribute performance to guests was provided by Gifted Keys and music by DJ MJTheBeautifulBeat!  All with the “Farewell 44” artwork as a backdrop.

 

 

ORS continues to innovate new products for the versatile woman who is comfortable in her own skin and defines her own style through self-expression.  At the dinner, ORS unveiled the ‘first look’ of their new refresh packaging and reformulated products which include Sheen Spray and its Edge Control.  The new products will be available in stores like Walgreens, Target, and Sally Beauty in February/March of 2018.
