We all know the saying “Give a person their roses while they’re alive.” Monee here’s your rose bush. I met my good friend Monee randomly on one of my many retail therapy days. We became fast friends. She has been a great source of support for me and my blog. I am very grateful for her. A group of her many friends spent the day celebrating her birthday. We all got together for a cook out.

Summertime Chicago was a perfect backdrop for grilling and hanging with friends. We all agreed to bring a dish or beverage. There were some many great food options I was a happy camper. Monee birthday party was a huge success.

For the celebration of my good friend’s birthday, my contribution to the fun was a bottle of Ruffino Sparkling Rosé to her party. It’s known to have a fresh and fragrant with notes of strawberry and slight hints of rose petals. I normally don’t enjoy dry wines. So an extra dry wine is almost always a no go for me. However, the manager told me about the great blend and insisted I would like it. He was right. On the palate, this wine has elegant bubbles and refreshing flavors of delicate red berries and white fruits.

More recently I’ve been studying up on different wines and spirits to expand my palate. In researching Ruffino Sparkling Rosé it’s noted to be an elegant and stylish Italian sparkling wine made primarily from the Glera grape, which is used in all Prosecco wines, blended with Pinot Noir. The Glera grape gives the wine structure and body, and the Pinot Noir provides the wine with a beautiful rose hue. Because of its extra-dry style makes it easy to enjoy, and its bright fruit flavors and delicate bubbles make it perfect for enjoying a beverage before a meal or to pair with a variety of dishes such as grilled fish, roasted chicken, and mixed greens salads.

The Ruffino Sparkling Rosé was a huge hit. The ladies asked me where they could pick up a bottle of these wine. I picked my bottle from Food Life Chicago while I was at the Chicago Water Tower shopping. However, the Ruffino Sparkling Rosé can be picked up at Target and other restaurant locations. When consuming Ruffino Sparkling Rosé or any other spirits please do so responsibly.

It’s that time of year that many women stare at themselves in the mirror and say why didn’t I work out a little more? Or why didn’t I pass on that cheesecake? This time of year is called swimsuit season. This time of year can be even tougher for plus size women and girls. While at Blogher my friends and I went to pool and talked about dealing with our own swimsuit and body issues. It was great being able to jump into this topic and the pool feet first with Ashley of IAMFABELLIS and Tot of TOTALLYTOT.

I personally love a two piece swimsuit. I have a larger mid section so I prefer high waisted suits. That does not mean all plus size women have to pick those kinds of suits. I don’t believe in the idea of “dressing for your body.” Wear what makes you happy! For some that’s a one piece and that’s O.K.!! If you’re a one piece kind of girl try a strapless suit to add a little vavavoom.

I’m also a fan of cover ups. I love a kimono. They’re a great way to wear your swimsuit on whether it’s a one piece or a two piece but not show the world everything. I find the best way to wear swimwear with confidence is by getting connected. Get a few people that support you and send time loving them and allowing them to love you. Yes, self confidence starts with self. However, It’s feels good to have true support from people that wish you well. The girls and I sat poolside and talks about butt shapes and stretch marks. We all had parts of we wish we could upgrade but told each other that we were beauty just the way we were.

4 WAYS TO SLEEP LIKE A NAP QUEEN

A good night’s sleep can mean good skin health because when you’re sleep-deprived, your body makes more of the stress hormone cortisol. Elevated levels of cortisol can lead to increased stress and inflammation in the body, hurting your skin’s quality. But the relationship between skin health and lack of quality sleep can be a vicious cycle, especially with conditions like atopic dermatitis or eczema, which can lead to scratching even through the night, recent research published in the journal Clinics in Dermatology showed (everydayhealth.com). If you like hot showers at night do so more two hours before bed because changes the temperature can disrupt your body’s natural triggers that induce sleep.

Good sleep is know to improve memory. The mind is busy while we sleep. While at rest we can strengthen memories or practice skills learned while you were awake. Some researchers believe that sleep affects learning and memory in two ways: Lack of sleep impairs a person’s ability to focus and learn efficiently. Sleep is necessary to make it stick so that memories can be recalled in the future. Turn off electronics. I know turning off the cellphone can be hard. It’s known that the electronics stimulation can keep you up all night. I like to power mine all the way off and let them recharge so I can check Instagram and Twitter first then in the morning.

Study found that sleeping too little prompts people to eat bigger portions of all foods, increasing weight gain. And in a review of 18 studies, researchers found that a lack of sleep led to increased cravings for energy-dense, high-carbohydrate foods. Sleepy brain appears to crave junk food while also lacking the impulse control to say no (webmd.com). You should not go to bed within three hours after having a large meal. This ensures your body effectively digest the food.

Sleep and mood are closely connected; poor or inadequate sleep can cause irritability and stress, while healthy sleep can enhance well-being. Chronic insomnia may increase the risk of developing a mood disorder, such as anxiety or depression (healthysleep.med.harvard.edu). I have taken generic Benadryl or melatonin to help with going to sleep. I encourage to speak with your general practitioner before taking any medications include vitamins. It is very important if you’re having a serious mood disorder that you please seek medical help.

Chicago asked and The Makeup Show answered. We wanted to have The Makeup Show visited Chicago biannually like they do for other markets. November 2016 Makeup Show being the largest ever was the kick out to the professional show revisiting for second time in six month. The theme of this Makeup show was 3 fold. The business of Bridal Beauty, Artist’s Kit Building and Makeup in the social media space.

A Real Urban Mom

As always crowds were waiting for the doors to open. Lovers of all things makeup come to The Makeup Show to learn, to shop and reunite with their makeup friends. This show would be no different. Shelly Taggar, co-founded The Makeup Show and now the sol owner. She wanted to created a place for beauty industry insiders to learn, network and explore beauty brands and categories. In 10 years she took The Makeup Show, along with her team to 6 cities around the globe and continues to grow the brand around the world.

James Vincent has become the face of The Makeup Show. James is the director of Artistry for The Makeup Show were he develops all of the education at the show. At this show he introduced Danessa Myricks Beauty to The Makeup Show. James also spoke about The Makeup Show’s Chicago charity Deborah’s Place. Deborah’s Place opens doors of opportunity for women who are homeless in Chicago. Supportive housing and services offer women their key to healing, achieving their goals and moving on from the experience of homelessness. This weekends show has been fund raising to support. You can find out how to help here.

The Makeup show added “The Makeup Play Area.” This specifically designed area offers the ideal environment for artists of all experience levels to be introduced to new product, practice and improve their makeup skills, explore and play with product provided by The Makeup Show brands and interact with other artists in a fun environment and under the guidance of brand experts and The Makeup Show team of experienced artists. It’s a great place to touch and try products.

I did a little shopping. With so many brands in attendance I did a lot of shopping. I visited a few of my favorite brands. After shopping I attended James Vincent and two of Chicago area social media stars. On a panel aimed to study the power and influence that social media has on today’s beauty industry were Jaz Jackson and Ivy Dear.

I picked up some of Tress Mink Lashes in fierce kitten, MARIO BADESCU Facial Spray With Aloe, Herb and Rosewater, a Mustaevusa mood therapy mask in sadness, among a few other things.

It was great running into many of my friends. It’s true that makeup brings everyone together.

The Makeup Show is the must-attend event for all makeup professionals in the Midwest!

I first attended my first Grits and Biscuits party in 2015 and I’ve been in attendance ever since. It gets better and better every year. The first time I went I went alone. Year two my friend and her sister joined me. This year year three those two came again along with their partners. It’s great to come together with close friends and former classmates to dance to your favorite sings current and pasted. The idea of peaceful partying never changes but the music evolves and I’m here for it!

Ladies I writing this post for you. Many attend this event for the first time and make mistakes that I’m here to help with. Here’s a few of don’t for Grits and Biscuits:

Don’t wear heels – People come to dance and heels won’t cut it.
Wear loose fitting clothes – Bodycon are super sexy however when dudes start bumping and grinding that dress might end up over your head, lol.
Don’t get your hear done – Save your coins because your curls won’t last.
Warm up – You don’t want to hear “Drop lock and pop it” and then you can’t unlock it once you’ve popped it.
Don’t over pour – The music and the crowd’s body heat will have any person who’s had a little to much wasted fast.
Don’t get made with a random dances on you – It’s a party it’ll happen. Just move to the side and don’t make a scene.

You can easily see people of all ages and races shoulder to shoulder shaking it fast.

When you walk in you’re given a Grits and Biscuits “church fan”. They’re gold so hold on to it because you’ll need it!

Day two of my St. Louis trip centered Honey’s Child boutique first fashion show deemed a live look book. Honey’s Child boutique took over the chic St. Louis roof top of Anew and turned into a plus size fashion runway. The fashion show was hosted by Marie Dee of thecurvyfashionista.

This show not only offered a great view of St. Louis but an amazing up close and personal view of the latest in plus size fashion. The show featured plus dresses, shirt, skirt and my favorite swimwear. The swimwear just kept coming & coming and I was here for it! I was able to snatch a piece for myself right from the runway. The bomb piece will be hit the blog soon.

I came to visit the Louis for the second time. This time I was accompanied with a true St. Louis local Jeanne of FinesseCurves.com. The first stop on my day one STL trip was to a 24 hour unique food space called Peacock Diner. This quirky eatery offering American classics & anytime breakfasts, plus a private rotating booth. Located in the Delmar loop it’s a must see when visiting St. Louis.

I’m going to say the services wasn’t the best but not horrible. The servers were not the fastest but I’ll chalk that up to the easy breezy southern lifestyle. The food was very tasty. The Finals Breakfast sandwich was so good. The sandwich came fried egg, ham steak, bacon and cheddar cheese between two waffles served with sides of sriracha sauce and syrup. It was so yummy.
