Yes, you can! We should be wearing our clothes in many ways. When we make a purchase we should look at every garment as a staple piece with staying power. Something we can rock anywhere. Our looks should take us from work to the party that can’t be missed.
Who doesn’t want to get more mileage out of their favorite dress? Being open to creative ways to style them from pencil time to prosecco time is the will make sure we get the most bang for our buck!

Today is the first official day of spring. I’m so excited! I’ve been ready to step away from Chicago’s winter wear. To me, spring is the like the screen door being opening to summer. When a new season changes it allows for new colors, new trends and yes new purchases, lol.

Each season the team at the Pantone Color Institute creates the PANTONE Fashion Color Trend Report; a color overview highlighting the top colors fashion designers showing at NY Fashion Week will be featuring in their collections for the upcoming season. With color on the catwalk a key indicator of the color stories, we can expect to see showing up across all areas of design. The Spring 2018 palette concedited of 12 top colors. Those top colors are Meadowlark, Cherry Tomato, Little Boy Blue, Chili Oil, Pink Lavender, Blooming Dahlia, Arcadia, Ultra Violet, Emperador, Almost Mauve, Spring Crocus and Lime Punch.
Pantone says “The Spring 2018 palette encourages a sense of fun and playful release. With an air of complexity and distinctiveness, we find ourselves in a sanctuary of color that is ideal for some more unique and dramatic color mixing.” This really speaks to my whimsical glam fashion style. Of the 12 top colors, the muse for my spring opening look is arcadia.

The color arcadia hints at retro yet at the same time modern, Arcadia is a cooler, cleaner take on green that with its tinge of blue undertone takes us into a new direction for the spring 2018 season.

Clearly, I didn’t want to go with the standard its spring look with the pattern of flowers, lol. As a result, I decided to start spring off by color blocking. I saw this Unique 21 Hero suit and I got all the Marc Jacobs Fall ’18 ready to wear vibes. To be creative with color I went with a bright purple makeup bag as a clutch. In addition, I completed by adding a pair of Sam Edelman pointed toe pumps.
With the change in seasons, now is a perfect time to try something new with your fashion. For example, if you don’t have any bright colors in your wardrobe try adding a single solid item of color as a staple piece. Swap out your traditional black sweater for a yellow jacket. Many of us have our favorite work shoes. Try replacing that brown flat with a dark purple flat (depending on the color many will think they’re black but you’ll know better, lol). Or work color in with your accessories. I love a good fedora. This burgundy fedora is affordable and just what spring ordered.

I’ve been a Dove girl for a long time. I first started with their deodorant. I then tried and loved Dove’s body wash. Now Dove is all up in my head or should I say hair. I recently tried Dove’s new Style + Care Extra Hold Hairspray while wand curing my wig. I had tried curling it before but the curls looked a little limp. I was missing the holding spray.

Thought: I really liked Dove’s compressed micro-mist. The fast-drying formula is everything! The super fast-drying non-sticky formula left my wig brushes out soft. Dove say’s the new compressed micro-mist technology provides 25% more sprays per can. I believe it. I was able to curl my whole head with a few sprays. All I had to do was shake the can and spray. I was careful to hold the can 8-10 inches away from hair. I was also happy there wasn’t an alcohol or a random fragrances smell. Let me start off by saying thank you, everyone, for all the birthday wishes. As days roll into one another a birthday can make one stop and reflect on life achievements. You can be left feeling uplifted or let down depending on how you approach the subject. We can offend set unrealistic timelines for ourselves to hit certain goals. By now I should have a car, a husband, a kid or two, a degree and a home. Well, I have achieved none of those things. Happy birthday to me!
I’m very happy with my life. Those things the world tell me I should have really don’t move me. Who needs a car and I have Uber?! A husband would be nice. I mean someone to take my blog photo on a regular plus he can take the trash out. Now that’s love. I would like to complete my degree but time isn’t my best friend. A house won’t work because there aren’t single family homes in downtown Chicago. So those things don’t make or break me. Happy birthday to me!
I say all that to say this. Live your life on your own terms. Be the best for you. Don’t compare yourself to others. My most important life rule is “Stay in your own lane and drive at your own speed.”
I have taken time to reflect on what I would like to do during my next 365 days of life. I want to continue to be a voice for women. I want to continue to be a positive image for people of color. I want to continue to use my platform as free space for those who are made to feel less than. I want to spend more time with my friends and family. The older you became the more love ones you’ll lose. I’ve said this before ‘Time is not my friend.”Â
People often wear black for sad occasions. I choose to wear all black as a part of my celebration. I feel black is beautiful. This black sweater with rhinestones and beaded stars I received was perfect sparkle need. I paired them patent leather pants that are so on trend right now. Anyone following my Instagram nows I’m turning into the Mad Hatter; lol. So this beret was right on time. I paired it with some bomb gloves and my rhinestone envelope clutch. I needed every accessory like Iris Apfel. I felt very beautiful and comfortable in this look. With all the heartfelt birthday wishes I felt and feel really loved by the people that support me personally and my blog. Again, Thank you, thank you, thank you. You’re far too kind!

Family time is always a great time. Â Chicago Navy pier was all fun and games for Chicago Toy And Game Fair aka ChiTAG. Â ChiTag is North America’s largest Toy and Game Fair. Â In it’s 15 year ChiTag was a ton of fun not only for my 5 year old nephew but for me as well. Â So many different people attend ChiTag from toy/game inventors & designers to gamers of all ages of play along with families. Â Not to mention Chicago media like myself.
At ChiTag we were able to review, play with and test the hottest toys and games from around the world your family, friends and other attendees like Legos playsets, Build or Boom, Shark Bite, Catch the Fox, Rummikub Twist, Fish Food, all new Doggie Doo, Greedy Granny, Ultra Dash, Marbleocity, Automoblox, Magformers, Tileblox, Clicformers, Ice Cool, King Frog, Reef Route, Woo-Hoo, Flower Fairies, Peter Rabbit Secret Garden, 8-Bit Art Mario and many more! This post is child focused with my nephew, Jaivon, picking his 3 favorite from things from ChiTag 2017. Â S/N Ben’s Bubble Show is always my favorite!
2. Oral Health America. Â Oral health wasn’t toy based so I was a little shocked that Jaivon wanted to visit their booth. Â He saw the teeth and said I brush my teeth every day to keep them clean. Â I was like ok, lol. Â Even at his young age he knows the importance of oral health. Â The nice people at the OHA booth gave him a coloring sheet that he was able to color. Â He was happy to use his favorite color which is red. Â It took a village to snap this picture so it’s going up on Facebook!

3. Star Wars lunch. As you can see Jaivon was amazed by all the Star Wars characters.  He was about to play with him and take pictures.  He said “WOW!  Grandma we’re in a movie.”  The lunch was very nice.  Besides the great meal it was great seeing how happy Jaivon was while playing with the other children and toys at the Star Wars lunch.  He very happy to go with a Paw Patrol activity tin and Star Wars Monopoly.  Clearly a win win for Jaivon!

Bonus –Â Fun with new friends! Â Chicago Toy and Game Fair gives child a chance to pay with children they might normally meet in their neighbor or school. Â I love that the children were freely playing with each other. Â One mom said to me “I know my son is happy yo be here because there is only girls at home. Â Her son and my nephew played like they were best friends at the Uno booth for at least 30 mins. Â Uno attack game was a big hit at the fair for us and will be under our tree for Christmas.

Â Pink, mauve, and baby blue are typical pastel colors. Â Often times plus size women feel that they can’t wear pastels and choose to stick to black. Â Here are 5 quick tips to wearing pastel for the plus size girl ready to step out their box.
I worn this pastel dress with silver. Â Silver or gray goes great with the muted colors.
Pastel works well with bright colors. Â This would great time to add playful accessories.
Use pastel as your pop of color by pairing pastel with neutral colors. Â Try wearing pastel jeans with a nude top and shoe.
Wearing two or three pastel colors together is a great look.
You can also wear one pastel color in different shades. Â That’s a great way to rock the Spring style.

#FatGirlMagic is a real thing! Â I see women of size slaying daily. Â I wanted to offer my take on this magical wave. Â My core style has always been whimsical so this look is how I feel in my head all the time. Â Some women may say “I don’t have the confidence.” Â I say put of your crown and work your magic.
I say this in all my post.  I’m cheerleader for women wearing what they want.  It doesn’t have to be a two piece swimsuit it could be that bodycon you have in the closet that you’ve never worn.  Or those jeans you love but feel people might stare.  At the end of the day you must do what’s best for you.  Make yourself happy.  It’s just clothes you’ll have on something completely different tomorrow.
