Let me start off by saying thank you, everyone, for all the birthday wishes. As days roll into one another a birthday can make one stop and reflect on life achievements. You can be left feeling uplifted or let down depending on how you approach the subject. We can offend set unrealistic timelines for ourselves to hit certain goals. By now I should have a car, a husband, a kid or two, a degree and a home. Well, I have achieved none of those things. Happy birthday to me!
I’m very happy with my life. Those things the world tell me I should have really don’t move me. Who needs a car and I have Uber?! A husband would be nice. I mean someone to take my blog photo on a regular plus he can take the trash out. Now that’s love. I would like to complete my degree but time isn’t my best friend. A house won’t work because there aren’t single family homes in downtown Chicago. So those things don’t make or break me. Happy birthday to me!
I say all that to say this. Live your life on your own terms. Be the best for you. Don’t compare yourself to others. My most important life rule is “Stay in your own lane and drive at your own speed.”
I have taken time to reflect on what I would like to do during my next 365 days of life. I want to continue to be a voice for women. I want to continue to be a positive image for people of color. I want to continue to use my platform as free space for those who are made to feel less than. I want to spend more time with my friends and family. The older you became the more love ones you’ll lose. I’ve said this before ‘Time is not my friend.”
People often wear black for sad occasions. I choose to wear all black as a part of my celebration. I feel black is beautiful. This black sweater with rhinestones and beaded stars I received was perfect sparkle need. I paired them patent leather pants that are so on trend right now. Anyone following my Instagram nows I’m turning into the Mad Hatter; lol. So this beret was right on time. I paired it with some bomb gloves and my rhinestone envelope clutch. I needed every accessory like Iris Apfel. I felt very beautiful and comfortable in this look. With all the heartfelt birthday wishes I felt and feel really loved by the people that support me personally and my blog. Again, Thank you, thank you, thank you. You’re far too kind!

Tights are an affordable way to update a look. They’re a great way to bring some of your summer and even spring looks into fall or winter comfortably. Who doesn’t want to wear their favorite dress or shorts into the next season? That same dress you rock all summer can now be worn in the fall by simply adding tights to the look. Tights are one of my best cold weather friends. Depending on the pair you’re wearing they can be not only functionally but sexy or fun.
I have collected a few of my favorite brands so you can see what tight options are out there. I have selected tights from Lane Bryant, ASOS, Eloquii, Macy’s and Target. Tights come in lots of colors and styles so there is something for everyone.

What does denier mean?
One of the key features of tights is the denier. By definition, denier is a unit of weight used for determining the fineness or thickness of the tights. The lower the denier value, the more fragile and sheer the tights are.
Tights less than 40 denier are generally referred to as pantyhose or stockings. The higher the denier number, the thicker the tights. Opaque tights are commonly available in 50 denier, 60 denier, and 70 denier thicknesses.

My Favorite work day is Friday. That’s only topped by payday Friday. Friday for me is the open door for the weekend. My co-worker and I often talk about what we have planned for the weekend. Often times we both mention how we’re going to Macy’s. The Macy’s in Chicago is not only an historical place to visit but a great place to shop. Macy’s carries many of the brands I love like Rachel Roy, Almost Famous, Jessica Simpson and Nike. Macy’s makes getting ready for casual Friday a breeze.
A normal Friday in my office is a cake walk. Must of the higher ups “work from home” and I’m left alone for most of the day. My co-worker Niecy and I set up the action plan for the day. We then head out for our much deserved coffee. Some days when we’re feeling especially hard working we split a lemon loaf. After returning to the office we spend the rest of the day processing our paperwork and talking about shopping.
Niecy is a mother to a set of twin boys and loves to coupon. She’s loves Macy’s because she says she saves so much using the Plenti Card. Plenti is the rewards program you can join for free and earn points. We often share with each other our receipts to hashtag humble brag about our savings. Friday’s are simply the best!

Causal Friday with Macy’s helps me look stylish at work. Yes, I bare my shoulders at work. Who’s gonna check me boo?! I mean it’s just us, lol.
