MY FAT BODY CAN’T BE SHAMED

In this blog post,  We’re asking will people ever become comfortable with seeing plus size bodies.  Will plus size bodies showing skin ever rule the world?  My fat body can’t be shamed.

Off Brand

In a post, I”m sharing my thoughts on being a content creator of color and dealing with issues outside your niche.

This post will be a little random.  However, going forward posts like this won’t be random.  As a woman of color, I feel overwhelmed with the needed to share my thoughts on what’s happening in the world around me.  My world is more than just pretty dresses and blouses.  Daily I feel compelled to speak on topic others than lipstick and blush.  I was mainly sharing these thoughts on Twitter.  However, I believe limited characters don’t always allow for me to get my thoughts across.

All photos by sodafountainphoto.  Styling by TFGOF,

I’ll still be talking about all this glittery and glam.  I’ll just be adding posts about other pressing things as well.

I can’t and won’t separate my fully formed thoughts from my blog.  I honestly was holding back so I would be able to work with more brands.  I can’t be that person.  If brands does not want to work with me because of my views on the world.  I feel that that brand isn’t a brand I should be working with anyway.

I’ve been an honest actor when it comes to my blog.  I don’t buy followers,  I don’t buy likes.  I don’t take part in comment trains.  I believe this was this last thing holding me back for just being me.

I hope you like the new content I’ll be bringing.  Feel free to message at any time with your thoughts and ideas.

Seeing Red In Loft Plus Size

In this blog post, I’m seeing red in Loft plus size.  I’m sharing why our engaged community is so important.  Why it matters how we as plus size women feel and speak our minds if we want to see change.

I want to first say I’m overwhelmed by the response I received on the blog post on TIPS FOR PLUS SIZE ONLINE DATING.  I got some really good feedback.  One response or comment that I want to mention is “This is such a cute picture! Why do you think dating plus size is different from a straight size person dating?”

When I write a blog post I do them for different reasons.  I want to provide information/education on a subject or a topic.  I want to bring brand or event awareness,  Some posts are done in response to questions/ or request from blog readers. S/N I love those posts the most because that means my people are engaged.  I responded to her comment (I respond to all comments on the blogInstagramFacebook, or Twitter) with this “thank you ☺️. I believe as [a] plus [size] women social media treats us different than our straight size counterparts.”

Being a plus size woman my life is not like my counterparts that are straight-size.

The majority of my blog readers are plus women trying to navigate their way through life just like I am.  Working a  9 to 5 and looking for a date to the movies.  I’ve chatted with some readers about online dating and said I was going to do it.  The post was me saying I’m on an app too you’re not alone in this.  The tips within that post were meant to be helpful to plus size women.  We have all watched enough episodes of Catfish to know people don’t react well when the person they thought they were getting from online isn’t the people they got in real life.  It’s important to show the real you.  Also, it was a reminder that there are some people on dating site solely to scam so be careful.

I’ve been on the app a little while before I created the post.  In real-time, I updated my readers on my social channels my current status as it relates to online dating.  The app I’m using caught wind of my social post and reached out.  They asked me what were some of my issues with the app.  I’m currently compiling a list so leave a comment what are some improvements or changes you’d like to see on dating apps.

I hope this post provides encouragement and style inspiration which we all are looking for, insight on content selection, as well as confirmation on why this community matters.  Also In all my posts, I ask for comments.  This allows me to provide feedback to brands that are looking to partner with TFGOF.  Things don’t change overnight but I know brands are watching and listening.

Lastly! This dress is on sale with code WANT – Happy shopping.

Tips For Plus Size Online Dating

Have you ever thought about online dating?  I’m going to dip my toe into the dating pool again.  I’ve been so focused on my blog and working 9-5pm dating has been the last thing on my mind.  I created this blog post on Tips For Plus Size Online Dating as a refresher for myself and a push for another looking to join me.  Maybe I could start us new daters a Facebook group?

Below are 10 tips for plus size dating. By the time you read this, I’ll have my profile up.  Wish me luck!

  1. Don’t waste time on the wrong online dating app.  Some apps have a hook-up only reputation.  If that’s not what you’re looking for I would stay away from those apps.  We’re all adults here you know what apps I’m talking about.
  2. A picture is worth a 1,000 word.  Use clear photos.  Don’t fill up your online dating profile with tons of pictures.  It’s not Instagram.  I selected 5 pics max.  Face shot, sitting shot, 3 full body shots.  Rect pictures in different outfits are best.  Make sure no one else is in the photos. All photos taken by DeeXDee.  Styling by TFGOF,
  3. Select an appropriate username.  Remember you get from the world what you put out into the world.  If you don’t want a ton of spam messages about sex I would stay away from usernames like bigtittykitty or lilmzonlinesexy.
  4. Be honest in your bio.  Be honest from the beginning!  Lying about your age, what you do, or that you’re not really single is a no-no.  I wouldn’t put all my business out there but being untruthful is never the way.
  5.  Know what you want and don’t lower your standards.  We can’t just go for the first notification that comes our way.  With that said being said be realistic with what you want.  I don’t think Idris Elba will be sliding in my DMs.  But a can dream right!
  6. Be prepared to have something to say.  At this point, you have a choice to make.  How long do you plan on messaging before a meeting?  Are you here for a date or catfishing online messaging romance.
  7. Don’t share your other social media info.  You don’t want random people visiting your Facebook or Instagram without your knowledge.  It’s also a safety issue.  You’re a big fine woman who doesn’t need a stalker.
  8. Remember this should suppose to be fun.  Don’t get obsessed with one person.  Sis we’re not going to be waiting by the computer.
  9. This shouldn’t have to be said but I feel I must.  Don’t send money!  While you’re looking for love some are looking for a victim.
  10. Lastly, don’t let what others have to say get you down.  There are internet trolls everywhere.  Remember you have all the power and it’s called the delete button!

I received the featured look compliments of the ASOS, however; All opinions are my own

Hope this post offers some encouragement for those looking for love online.  I’ll report back in a month with my results.  Maybe a post of preparing for an online date.  Have you ever online dated?  Leave me some of your tips in the comments…..

WHO WHAT WEAR FOR TARGET PLUS SIZE & BUDGET-FRIENDLY

Shoulder Ruffle Midi Dress - Who What Wear Tan - plus size“Parlaying fashion advice into retail gold.” _Fast Company

.

.

It’s spring!  Yes even with mother nature acting up it is spring.  Even though the weather being uncooperative with the calendar, WHO WHAT WEAR, Target and myself are pressing on with our spring plus size style.  And more importantly, spring plus size style that is budget-friendly.

What’s budget-friendly?  Well inexpensive.  I know what a person feels is “inexpensive” can be within the eye of the beholder.  However, WHO WHAT WEAR for Target is really affordable.  All of the current pieces in the spring collection are under $40 dollars!

Who What Wear - plus size line -spring fashion

WHO WHAT WEAR offers Target loving fashionista a new collection every month or so.  The latest collection is very thing a trendy girl needs to get Instagram really.  The WHO WHAT WEAR collections includes dresses, tops, bottoms, jackets, shoes, and of course accessories.

WHO WHAT WEAR for Target is plus friendly with sizes available up to 4X or 30W (varies depending on the item).  I have seen these larger sizes in-stores however those sizes go fast.  Plus sizes are readily available online at target.com

I love many of the WHO WHAT WEAR for Target past collections.  They allow me to stay on trend while not breaking the bank.  I find the WWW clothes to be of good quality and now are staples in my closet.

.

The off the shoulder ruffle midi dress I’m wearing is from the WHO WHAT WEAR  collection.  Made of polished cotton fabric it has a simple asymmetrical top that is balanced out by a full mid-length skirt.  This dress is available up to 4X (28-30W).  I’m wearing a 3X (24W-26W).  I normally wear 2X because I’m an 18-20, however, this dress’ material (70.0% Cotton, 28.0% Nylon and 2.0% Spandex) has no stretch so I went up a size so it would fall off my shoulders.  The waist-cinching belt that comes with the dress allowed me to remain shapely.

I did this post as part of a collaboration with 2 other plus size style bloggers.  We wanted to showcase the WHO WHAT WEAR for Target brand on plus size women of different shapes and sizes.  Each blogger selected a different dress for the latest collection.  We all styled it to match our own personalities.  You can find more plus size WHO WHAT WEAR styling with Shamika of froplusfashion.com and Chasi of sweatinmascara.com.  This group brings diversity with our style and fashion vision.  If you’re looking for budget-friendly plus size style inspiration you’ll definitely find it here.

I NEED LOVE | 7 WAYS TO SUPPORT BLOGGERS OF COLOR

Support bloggers of color ...“For the first time in my life, I see I need love” _ LL Cool J (I Need Love)

.

.

I writing this for my family, friends and even the people that read my thoughts regularly here.  Writing and running a personal blog is very difficult.  Add to that the issue of race and you in a sense have doubled or tripled complication of getting your message out.  Almost every time I talk with a fellow blogger of color, the conversation turns to business, money, and blogging while brown.  As bloggers of color, we have the same issues as every other blogger like how should my blog look,  what to place in sidebar,  ads or no ads, affiliate programs and of course how to get noticed.  Often times we’re left to figure it out on our own.  If you’re not getting a true return on the investment being made into your blog one could be left feeling that like you’re paying to blog.

Bloggers often are the voice of their community.  We alert you to things that are happening in your area.  Bloggers tell you about new things on the market.  Bloggers try before you buy.  We.  We proved you with valuable and trusted voice free of change.  I started thefatgirloffashion.com five years ago to give a voice to Chicago plus size community.  Some have mastered the gauntlet to turn this their content into compensation.  For those among us who haven’t here are a few things that can be done to help us along our way.

Support bloggers of color .

Subscribe! Follow! Subscribe! Follow!

If you have an email subscribe to bloggers of colors newsletter.  You can start with mine here.  Subscribing is much appreciated.  (Pull the newsletter out of spam) It doesn’t cost anything!  Follow them everywhere you can, but the newsletter is definitely a biggie.  If you’re on social media follow them on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter also.

Share their content and credit them

I don’t know many bloggers that aren’t present on every social network.  If you prefer Facebook and want share a post you just read tag the blogger’s Facebook like page.  On the chance that post goes viral it helps to note who created the content.  If you don’t know how to tag it’s ok!  But please know a like, share or retweet is much appreciated.  We want our community, and at the end of the day, to find what we’re sharing helpful and that’s an easy way for us to know you’re enjoying the content.

We are a family like a giant tree reaching up to the sky (Random Dreamgirls quote).  However, it does work here.  We are a family.  We are a community.  Voice your questions.  Voice your concerns.  Voice your thoughts.  I get a lot of DMs when I post something of social media.  At times I’m DM’d the same question by multiple people.  For aesthetic purposes some post’s captions are informational.  Those lead to questions.  As a micro-blogger, I have the luxury of responding to every comment made on all my platforms.  If your question isn’t personal like the question in the comments.  Leaving the question in the comments does two things.  It may be a question already answered and reading the comments you might see your answer.  Second, it shows brands that bloggers of color have engaged communities.  It says “We’re here! We’re a part of this!”  You don’t have to do it on every blog post or Instagram picture buttttttttt we would be mad if you do!

Support bloggers of color ....

Shop your favorite brands through bloggers of color

All the bloggers of color you love are part of an affiliate program or two.  What’s an affiliate program?  It’s a program set up by brands to pay an influencer for products that their community buys.  No blogger is quitting their day job over an affiliate payout.  Honestly, it’s often pennies.  With that being said every penny counts!  I’m an “I’ll try before you buy blogger”.  As a petite plus size blogger, I purchase new collection so that my community can see how it looks on some that looks more like them and not the hourglass models most brands use.  For example, the post I did for Target’s Universal Thread.  This is a new label by Target and I had a post out on the day of the release.  The clothing wasn’t gifted nor was the post sponsored.  Shopping through our links helps us in purchasing the products you want to be reviewed.

Let us know when we got it wrong

I’m dyslexic.  I openly share this because I have nothing to be ashamed of.  I know I get things wrong.  I push through!  I also know a lot of people feel some kind of way when it comes to letting people know they’ve made a mistake.  I believe if you’re coming from a place of helpfulness people won’t take offense.  I use correction apps but I still make mistakes just let a sister know.  Now that something for the DMs, lol.  This also includes if a link doesn’t work or a page it’s loading.  Tell us so we can fix it!

Support bloggers of color ..

Show up and bring a friend

When your favorite blogger is hosting an event purchase a ticket and show up.  Take pictures and post them on social media.  Use their hashtag.  The hashtag I recently started is #afatgirlwithstyle.  Don’t go to the event alone.  If you can bring a friend with you.  The more the merrier!  Community participation is how bloggers of color get sponsors to support the swag bags we all love.

Support bloggers of color ...

Pass along our business cards

If you receive a business called for a blogger of color.  Please use that card to follow their blog and find them on social media.  Then please pass that same card to someone you know that would like their content.  Don’t leave it at the bottom of your purse or take it our your wallet and place it in a drawer.  Keep their message moving by handing off their business card.

.

In being this post to an end I want to thank each and everyone who has supported me along the way of my blog journey.  Who would have known a random thought in my head would turn into me being a part of a wonderful community.  As bloggers of color, we have a unique voice.  We often represent the underrepresented.  Support us so we can continue to support you!

Single Girl’s Valentine Day Gift Guide

c3fc4d56-6ace-416f-8e3a-da12ac845a4e“If you can’t love yourself, How the hell are you going to love somebody else?” _RuPaul

.

.

As a confirmed bachelorette when days like Valentine day comes around I make sure to treat myself to something special.  I know a lot of girls will be showing off gifts they’ve purchased themselves aka “doing it for the gram” and claiming it’s from their man.  I’m here to say be honest.  In the words of the great Donna Marie Meagle of Parks and Recreation “Treat Yo Self!” and know it’s ok to do so.

Whether you plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s Day or Singles Appreciation Day  I have made the perfect gift guide for you.

img_0435

The Single Girl’s Valentine day gift guide will focus on 3 of my favorite things.  The first item will be dresses.  Dresses are an easy way to celebrate yourself and show your personality.  The second will be lingerie.  I’m a huge fan lingerie.  As a single woman, I personally wear lingerie for myself often.  It’s a great way to spice up an outlook.  Lastly purses.  Purses as an accessory are my go-to way to take a look to the next level.

The guide’s color wheelhouse is red and pink.  Both colors have long been associated with Valentine’s day.  Red is the color of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love. Red is a very emotionally intense color. It enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate, and raises blood pressure.  Pink is the English word for a color often called rosa in Italian, German and Spanish. A color named after the most romantic flower must have something to do with Valentine’s Day! Pink is created by mixing red and white, making it a purer form of the lusty red.
