M·A·C’s Justine Skye Iridescent Pressed Powder | Reviewed

JSkye“Never frown because you never know who might be falling in love with your smile.”_ Justine Skye

M·A·C has teamed up with a visionary group of women shaping music’s future in a series of limited-edition collaborations.  M·A·C teamed up with Brooklyn native and violet-haired R&B singer Justine Skye woos online audiences with her velvety voice and unstoppable presence. Her easy glamour and confident eclecticism come together in a bright purple-pink Iridescent Powder for those ready for as much colour and charisma as Skye herself.  Justine SkyeXMAC iridescent pressed powder is now available.

Lately I’ve been obsessed with everything iridescent.  So when I saw the new Justine Skye by M.A.C. iridescent pressed powder I know I had to try it.  Pressed powers can be used in many ways.  I’m choosing to use this press power as a highlight.  The color is called Justine Skye offers a hint of soft purple along with shimmering pink pearl sheen.  This fun shade is long-wearing with buildable coverage and shimmery finish.  It comes in special packaging that features a purple glitter design with holographic silver accents and Justine Skye’s logo.

I love it.  It ready pops without having to use a ton of the product.  I used a slight hand and it showing up well on my brown skin.  I can see myself putting this press power on wet to get an extra glow.  This is a limited edition item from M.A.C. so I’m going to run out and get another one so I can have a backup.  I like it that much! You can get your own here.

As for the Starbucks’ unicorn drink. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm don’t waste your money.  It taste like food coloring and whip cream.  This is the first special Starbucks drink I purchase and didn’t like.  Unicorn are everything good and sweet and this drink simply wasn’t.  Sorry to report such bad news.  However I hope this save you money and taste buds, lol.

Beauties will you be getting Justine Skye iridescent pressed powder?  Will you trying the unicorn drink from Starbucks?

Product purchased and all opinions are my own.

Get Ready With Me

get-ready-with-me-4 “There is no royal flower-strewn path to success.  And if there is, I have not found it for I have accomplished anything in life it is because I have been willing to work hard.” _Madam CJ Walker

I get asked a lot watch I have on makeup I’m wearing.  I often response with “Girl a whole lot.”  I’m going to share in this post the what I’m wearing question.

egg-cream-mask

I begin by spraying my face with Mario Badescu facial spray with aloe, herbs and rosewater.  I use this to wake my skin up.  I apply M.A.C. prep + prime moisture infusion serum and 24 hour comfort cream to moisturize.  I then do my eyebrows.

I use a Wet N Wild color icon kohl eyeliner in simma brown now (603A) to shape my eyebrows.  I use shade lighter than my skin tone to clean up and highlight the bottom of my eyebrow.  The one I use is L.A.Girl Pro conceal in a color fawn.  For the top of the eyebrow I use a color that more closely matches my skin tone.  I use L.A.Girl Pro conceal in the color toast. I used e.l.f. eyeliner brush for the top and bottom eyebrow clean up.

I correct my dark spots with L.A.Girl Pro conceal in the color orange.  I then apply foundation.  I use L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous in the color nut brown cocoa (C7-8).  Followed up with M.A.C. Pro longwear concealer in shade NC50.  I use the Real Techniques miracle complexion sponge to apply the longwear concealer in the same places I applied the orange color corrected.

get-ready-with-me-5

Because I love a matte look I set my face with Laura Mercier translucent loose setting powder in medium deep.

img_4350

After setting my face I then highlight and contour.  I use is L.A.Girl Pro conceal in a color fawn. to highlight applied with a damp Real Techniques miracle complexion sponge.  The highlight is set with a mix of Laura Mercier translucent loose setting powder in medium deep and natural finish applied with a damp Real Techniques miracle complexion sponge.  I then layer three products to contour.  The darkest shade from e.l.f. cream contour palette, Black Radiance press power in rich mahogany and M.A.C. cosmetics blush in the color sketch.

pamper-me-me

On the apple of the cheeks I use my go to blush in color violet from e.l.f.’s aqua beauty blush & bronzer set with a little of Becca’s luminous blush in color Dahlia layered on top.

get-ready-with-me

I then focus on the eyes.  For eyeliner I use either blacktrack by M.A.C., tattoo liner by Kat Von D or Marc Jacobs Beauty gel eye crayon liner.  Recently I’ve been obsessed with lashes.  Mainly bottom lashes.  I’ve been using a combination of 5 mascaras at once to get my eyelash look. I use mainly Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara, Revlon ultimate all-in-one mascara and Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara and whatever mascaras that are in arms reach.  When going to events I add a lash strip to the top lash.

glow-up-now

Highlighting is currently the hotness makeup application around.  I am in love with Make Up For Ever’s Pro Light Fusion Highlighter in color golden pink.  When I tell you it takes me to my happy place, It does!  I also use M.A.C. mineralize skinfinish in the color gold depositLa Bronze or NARS highlighting blush powder in the color albatross.  Lastly I spray my whole face with prep + prime fix+ by M.A.C. to set and seal the make up look for the day.

get-ready-with-me-1

I know it seems like a lot.  Once you gone down the make up rabbit hole it’s not, lol.  There are a lot of makeup products I “should” add to my makeup process but as if yet this is it.

Would you like to see blog posts for each step?

Laura Mercier translucent loose setting powder in MEDIUM DEEP

“Change only what you can’t live with, but try to accept who you are, and say yes to what makes you unique. Your confidence will make you sexier than any beauty product or accessory you could possibly buy.”

_ Laura Mercier

I’ve said this before and I’ll say this again I’m not an MUA nor have I ever claimed to be one.  I’m just a regular degular shmegular girl who has a real love for makeup.  With that being said I love love love Laura Mercier’s translucent loose setting powder.  I was always a fan of the translucent loose setting powder but now the brand has added a new shade called Medium Deep.  This setting powder is a silky, lightweight setting powder with a touch of sheer coverage offering a matte finish.  This medium deep tone oil-free, non-comedogenic, non-caking, dermatologically tested power can only be called a makeup blessing for darker tone makeup junkies like myself.

Laura Mercier’s translucent loose setting powder has long been a fan favorite.  To me, it’s the best of the best.  The medium deep shade for me works just as good as the original.  When a brand tries to expand its range quality can be lost in that expansion.  That’s not the case with this power.  It still goes on evenly and feels like it melts into the skin.  It blends without adding weight or texture while providing great wear.`

Now let’s talk color.  Translucent loose setting powder in Medium Deep was designed for medium deep to the very deepest skin tones.  With the original shade would cause at times flashback or a gray shadow of darker tone skin people.  The medium deep colored power know gives darker tones a translucent finish.  Laura Mercier brand recommends applying with the velour puff (sold separately). Only the 0.33 oz size /travel size of translucent powder comes with the velour puff.  I use a large fluffy brush.

I’m really in LOVE with the new shade.  The Translucent loose setting powder in Medium Deep works great for my skin tone.  It’s really easy to apply and doesn’t add weight to overall makeup application.  The current available is limited.  I was very lucky to get my hands on this powdery gold.  Also the medium deep is not currently sold in the 0.33 oz size /travel size.

(Allure Photo) Ensures makeup lasts throughout the day.

Setting powders controls and reduces shine.

It’s lightweight and does not look cakey on skin.

Help absorbs excess oil.

Brown beauties will you be trying the medium deep Laura Mercier’s translucent loose setting powder?

SPEND OR SAVE : Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner

marc-jacobs-beauty-highliner-4“Eyes are everything to me.  I have no problem with the rest of the face.  I just think eyes are so expressive.  You can say a lot with your eyes.  The eyes stimulate the other person’s imagination.”

_ Mac Jacobs

I’m not an MUA nor have I ever claimed to be one.  Now that you know I’m just a regular degular shmegular girl who has a real love for makeup you’ll  really like this  Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner review.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner says it offers a waterproof bold & intense color in a matte finish for extreme wear.  It’s being said to be a gel pot eyeliner encased within a crayon.  First of it’s kind, an exclusive to Marc Jacobs Beauty. The brand says the eyeliner should sit in place for an 12-hour wear.  The eyeliner has a built in sharper to help keep a perfect point for a precise look.

The matte finish is prefect for a person who wants a glitter-free and super-rich pigment. They don’t dry instantly.  It does take roughly 15 seconds to dry.  That’s good because that gives you time to play with your look before the highlighter settles.  Or it could be a bad thing because the product could shift on accident.  I like that it’s a waterproof gel formula.  I also like that it  has a built in sharpener however, if you forget to reattach it the sharpener could be lost.

The Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner can be purchased at marcjacobsbeauty.com or sephora.com.  I would say at $25 save your money.  Mac Jacobs Beauty Highliner sized at 0.01 oz  compared to MAC’s pro longwear fluidline  at 0.1 oz for $8 less can’t compare to a pot gel liner.  Yes, the pencil is very convenient and has a super fast drying time.  I can see myself taking this with me to the lobby of a chic hotel as Marc envisioned.  The brand’s claim to be long wearing is very true!  The major perks of the highliner is the sharpener to keep the point sharp.  It really does help in getting that crisp line we all love.  The application was great and I loved how the pencil looked on me.  It’s the price I can’t get past.  If they dropped the sharpener and shorten the pencil a little maybe Marc could  get the cost at $15 maybe. If you’re a Marc Jacobs Beauty fan this gel eye crayon will be worth every penny.

marc-jacobs-beauty-highliner-6Highliner takes about 15 seconds to set, so if you work quickly with a small smudging brush, you can create an instant smoky eye.

MAC Cosmetics Viva Glam 2017

taraji-p-henson-mac-viva-glam

Since 1994, 100 percent of the proceeds from the purchase of any MAC Viva Glam product has gone to the MAC AIDS Fund.  The fund works to bridge the grab between poverty and HIV/AIDS.  They work international providing services to those living with the illness.  On February 2 Taraji P. Henson and her Empire costar Jussie Smollett will be the latest faces of MAC’s Viva Glam campaign.

Taraji P. Henson launched a small capsule collection #MacTaraji with MAC Cosmetics last year.  I was able to review the #MacTaraji collection before it sold out.  The collection sold out so fast that Taraji’s own mother couldn’t get her hands on it.  I’m sure Mac is hoping for the same success with the 2017 Viva Glam collection.

The two join previous campaign’s famous faces, like Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Nicki Minaj. Jussie is the first male face of the Viva Campaign.  He joins the likes of RuPaul, Boy George, Sir Elton John and Ricky Martin.

In an unprecedented move Mac Cosmetic is used a tube of lipstick to directly confront and raise money and awareness for AIDS at a time when the pandemic dramatically affected the fashion makeup communities, and was greatly stigmatized as a gay disease.  22 years later the lipstick with a mission started by Frank Angelo and Frank Toskan is one of the most sought after annually.

I think this year’s berry-red hue will looks great on everyone!  Will you be picking up the lipstick? the lipglass? both?

Parks and Recreation Season: Episode: 16

Galentine’s Day is a fictional holiday created by Leslie Knope, Amy Poehler’s Parks and Rec character, in 2010.  It’s to be celebrated Feb. 13 annually, the day before Valentine’s Day.  Leslie believes “Oh it’s only the best day of the year.  It’s a day to celebrate ladies”

It’s Galentine’s is basically Valentine’s day for your gals aka your besties aka your total single friends. Really it’s another really just another reason to get with your friends and dress up, eat & drink and take usies.

I come up with a few Galentines’s gift ideas because you don’t want to show up empty handed.  We’re not giving flowers and teddy bears but things our girls really want.  I’ve made sure to keep all the gifts under twenty bucks so it you have 2 or 3 Galentines you won’t  break the bank.

Any Galentines will love all 8 brushes.  Perfect for your girls on the go!

Your Galentine can sport a sparkling glitter manicure that stays shiny and bright with an ultra-smooth finish, without the hassle of glitter removal! ”

Perfect for any Galentine.  It’ll hold makeup or jewelry.

Surrounds your Galentine’s feet with massaging bubbles.

Your Galentine will love the clarifying shower gel, body buffer, body butter and the hydrating hand cream.

A great Galentine floral fragrance.  It’s sensual and addictive. Crisp, icy pear, sugared almond and intense vanilla”

If you’re girls are like Joan and her crew or like Rose and her peeps everyone love to spend time with their besties.  Be sure to tag me in your pictures of you and your Galentine…    XOXOXOXO

5 Ways To Stay Fresh Faced

new-year-new-face

What a better way to start of a the new year than with a than fresh faced.  Many of us make resolutions to take better care of ourselves.  Here are a few tips and skin care products that’ll help with that.

Clean Your Face : Wash your face with warm water.  Avoid using too hot or too cold water for rinsing the face. It’s untrue that cold water closes the pores and hot water opens them. Yes hot water feels good on skin during winters, it washes away essential oils of the skin leaving it dry.

Exfoliate : If you have sensitive skin, twice a week might be too much and could cause some irritation. On the other hand, if you live in a warmer climate or your skin is naturally oily, you might have to exfoliate more than twice a week to accommodate a higher buildup of dead skin cells.

Added a mask to you skin care routine : Adding a face mask into your weekly skin regimen, it’s okay to use it once or twice a week. If your skin is on the oily side in the summer, or very dry in the winter, it’s a good idea to use a mask more frequently

Don’t fall asleep in makeup :  Falling a sleep in makeup is one of the worst things you can to to your skin.  It can cause irritation, dry skin, chapped lips, wrinkles, and infection.  If worst comes to worst use makeup wipes.

Drink water : Drinking water had to make this list.  There are countless benefits of drinking water.  Adding the proper amounts of water to your diet impacts digestion, circulation, absorption.  Drinking the right amounts of water can improve the color and texture of your skin.

Hope this offers a few skin care products that’ll help with our beauty resolutions for the new year!  Items pictured approved are things I’ve personal used to stay fresh faced.

5 takeaways from The Makeup Show Chicago

themakeupshow

I attended The Makeup Show Chicago and it was amazing.  As a Chicago blogger I love attending events like this and sharing it with my readers.  My Snapchat boos saw all the fun in real time.  I mean wall to wall lipstick, eyelashes and highlighters.  Beside feeling like a kid in a candy store I did learn a lot.  I want to share 5 takeaways from The Makeup Show Chicago.

My first takeaway from The Makeup Show 2016 is Chicago people go hard for makeup.  Guys and girls lined up early to see all The Makeup Show had to offer.  James Vincent  said this year was the most attended Makeup Show ever.

My second takeaway from The Makeup Show is the standard for beauty industry started in Chicago with Mario Tricoci.  During his keynote he spoke about his love for hair.  With all that his has accomplished he said he’s a hairdresser first.  He also spoke about the discipline that has guided his over 60 year career.

themakeupshow-2

My third takeaway from The Makeup Show is everyone’s makeup up journey is different.  The Lip Bar started in 2011 when a Detroit native, Melissa Butler, decided to forever change the way you looked at lip color and with great products and hard work The Lip Bar can be found online at target.

themakeupshow-chicago-3

My fourth takeaway from The Makeup Show is beauty brands are wall to wall.  Bring cash and credit to be safe side.  No one wants to leave their favorite lippie behind because they didn’t have the right currency. A separate blog post and Youtube video of my The Makeup Show haul is coming soon!

tms

My fifth takeaway from The Makeup Show is when you come come ready to slay!  All styles are welcome.  Be the must beautiful you.  I saw some many stylish people with beat faces.  I feel all styles were represented from team natural to pin up.  It was great to be in a place were all forms of artistic expressions though make up and hair were displayed with confidence.

The Makeup show Chicago 2017 is already set.  This is the must-attend event for all makeup professionals in the Midwest!  I’ll be right back at it November 17-18, 2017.  Hope to see you there! Until then follow The Make Show on social media Facebook, InstagramTwitter and by using the hashtags #TMSCHICAGO #INSPIRE #themakeupshow.  The Makeup Show also makes stops in Orlando, NYC, Dallas and LA.  See themakeupshow.com for more info.

5 Random Facts About theFatGirlofFashion

strapless-black-dress-rue-107-3

I started blogger because I wanted the world to know that Chicago had women that were plus size and fashionable. Overwhelming engagement thefatgirloffashion expanded to include lifestyle.   We discuss things like travel, food, and reviews. We all know my motto is “I’m happy with me.” If you’re happy with yourself than you will be more likely to live life on your own terms.  That’s why randomness is important.  With that being said here are 5 random facts about me.

Random fact number one is I’m going to Paris.  Paris, France is the plan for my 40th birthday.  I’m counting down the seconds!  I’m on the fence about how long to stay and what to do when I arrive.  Of course I’ll do all the regular tourist things but I want to see street culture off the beaten path. We’ll see.

m-a-c-cosmetics-x-taraji-p-henson-mactaraji-reviewed
Random fact two is I’ve grown into a real makeup junkie.  It use to take me about 3o mins to do my eyebrows.  I know along time but they were fleek.  Over time now I can do just as good of a job within a quarter of the time.  I use 3 products.  First brushing the hairs with an e.l.f. wand.  Then shaping with a Wet N Wild pencil and LA Girl concealer in color fawn & toast applied with an e.l.f. 1814 brush.

Random fact number 3 is that my favorite movie of all time is The Color Purple.  Followed up closely by Dream Girls.  When I first moved out on my own I didn’t have cable.  Only a VCR player.  Yes VCR, lol.  I would watch The Color Purple over and over.  The storyline was powerful and the acting was amazing.  My favorite line from the movie is captured in Miss Celie Voice.

“I’m poor, black, I might even be ugly, but dear God, I’m here. I’m here.”

Random fact 4.   I loooooove social media.  I adore being connected to people world wide.  Seeing things from the point of view others is how one grows.
We can connect everywhere.
The last random fact is that if I could move today I would move to Los Angeles
NO MORE SNOW, lol.  I love Chicago.  If I could move Chicago to a warmer climate I would do it in a heartbeat.  New York would be idea for a blogger but the weather there is no better than Chicago.  Like I said before I love Chicago so they’re stuck with me.
