Louis Vuitton Exhibition NYC | #travelingwhilefat

“Fly, Vogue, Travel.” _Louis Vuitton

The Louis Vuitton exhibition was nothing less than luxury on full display.  Curated by Olivier Saillard and Robert Carsen as artistic director & set designer, the exhibition retraces the adventure of the House of Louis Vuitton from 1854 to the present. A story told through the portraits of its founders, as well as those who today are inventing the Louis Vuitton of tomorrow.

This free admission exhibition was filled with the best that the Louis Vuttion brand has to offer.  It was great to see how Louis Vuttion started to as a local luggage company unto the household brand that everyone wants to have a piece of.  The wide range of visitors to the exhibition speaks to the brands reach beyond fashion but is a lifestyle.

It was amazing to see the role my hometown of Chicago played in the story of the Louis Vuttion brand.  Louis Vuttion’s son George came to America for the first time when he attended the 1893 Chicago World’sFair.  It was there he met with a department store owner who would help debut Louis Vuttion products in America.

I was able to see Louis Vuttion from the beginning as well as modern-day collaborations with brands like Vivienne Westwood to urban brands like Supreme.

.

Louis Vuttion has had a hand in all parts of travel fashion from the very start.

.

.

The first Louis Vuttion tunk was created for theLouis Vuttion brand in 1875.

.

.

Louis Vuttion used canvas and patterns to set his creations apart, as well as a protection against counterfeits.

Why Are You Single? And A Few Other Dumb Questions I’m Always Asked!

ASOS Blue Dress..“She putting on her make up.  She casually allure.  Text message break up, the casualty of tour.” _Kanye West (Devil in a New Dress)

.

.

Why I’m I single?  If I hear that damn question again I just might scream.  As I roll my eyes to the back of my head I can vaguely hear in a clown voice “You’re such a pretty girl you such be in a relationship.”  That normally followed up by so more bullish I don’t want to hear like I have a friend.  Because I was raised well I just smile and give a slight giggle.  However,  I really want to say “Why have you been with (insert man’s name) for years knowing he’s cheating on you?”  or “You’re so pretty you’d think your man would be faithful.”  Is that to shady?

The whole conversation makes me so sick.  Even more than the when are you having children question.  This question is offensive on so many levels.  With so many women struggling to have children to ask a question like that can be heartbreaking.  Even to assume every woman wants children is very old school thinking.

When I’m asked what I do often times my reply depends on who’s asking?  The question what’s a blogger is not a dumb question however the questions that follow my answer to that question are often are.  In what world is it on to ask ok to ask a person how much they get paid or do you get a lot of free stuff.  You won’t ask an accountant how much they’re paid.  How about a teacher?  As for “free stuff” that’s not the case for many bloggers.  They are some “bloggers” who only talk about things they’re paid to talk about.  However, many of us are providing our true opinions when the items are free or not.

Another blog question or maybe I should say statement is “Why do you call yourself fat?  You shouldn’t say yourself fat.”  I get that a lot when I tell people that my blog’s name is The Fat Girl of Fashion.  I don’t look at the word fat as an offensively.  For me, it’s just another adjective.  Just like petite, or beautiful.  I’m happy being fat and I don’t allow other’s issue make me feel any other way.

ASOS Blue Dress.

This is another statement but I felt the need to add it this fun post.  You don’t have children so you don’t have responsibilities.  This statement tickles me ever time.  As if bills only arrive at your doorstep when you start a family.  Stop telling people without children they don’t have responsibilities or limitation.  I have so many bills I won’t date a man named William.

This question came up at theCurvycon.  When someone says to a plus size person you have so much confidence.  When someone says that to me I would like to myself like what?!  As if my dress size should make me less confident.  If I was a size 6 my confidence wouldn’t even be in question.  I found it funny (not) that so many attendees have experienced the same issue.

Why do women who not wear makeup and or weave feel the need to tell me with a beat face and a long Nicki weave they don’t wear makeup and or weave.  Sis, I can see that.  Hell Ray Charles can see that.  Because I choose to wear makeup or a cranial prosthesis doesn’t make me any less a natural woman.  I love a good highlight so deal with it!

What are some of the dumb things people say to you?  What are some of the dumbest questions you get asked?  This is a safe space go ahead and vent,  lol.  Leave in the comments your own crazy question or share your response if any of mine are the same as yours.

New York is a great place to visit.  There aren’t many places that have a mix of culture, food, people, and entertainment.  When you combine all of those things you end up with a perfect backdrop for a photo experience.  I mean who doesn’t like to do it for the Gram!  If you’re seeing NYC for the first time or in need of a blogger-approved backdrops this list is for you.
New York offers some great visuals that are snap-worthy.  The places I’ve selected are free or very low cost.  All are easy to get to from public transit, a cab, Uber or Lyft.  It’s ok in you do have a camera and tripod.  Many of these places are perfect for iphoneography.  So put on your biggest smile and best look.

THE YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY

There are miles of colorful books, desks and lamps sit under a ceiling sent from the heavens in the NYPL’s ornate reading room.  It’s so Instagramable inside and out.  Be sure to walk up its steps and take a pic next to the pair of lions.  The lions are a big draw.

STONE STREET

Stone street is one of oldest streets in all of New York.  The setting is perfect for pictures.  The cool colors of the building are a great backdrop.  The Financial District has great statues to pose next to.

THE STATEN ISLAND FERRY

Nothing bets free!!!  It’s an hour round trip and fulls up quick.  It’s one of the best ways to see the New York City skyline is from the water. The Staten Island Ferry runs until 11pm. The ferry to Ellis and Liberty Islands (small fee) is also beautiful though it tends to be much more crowded. 4 Whitehall Street, 10004

THE FLATIRON BUILDING

The prime location for this oddly shaped and highly recognizable building — right across the street from Madison Square Park — makes the Flatiron Building an excellent stop for any city explorer.

Get someone with you to hop up onto a chair in the little plaza across the street for a shot sans people or traffic.  Avoid taking your photo early in the morning unless you want the shadows of other buildings cast across the Flatiron’s facade. 175 Fifth Avenue, 10010

THE OCULUS

The Oculus resembles a “bird released from a child’s hands.  It’s a shopping mall/transit hub in the World Trade Center complex.  It’s a true architectural wonders.  Head to the upper level of the mall to capture the futuristic rib-like skylight that makes up the ceiling.

A new addition to downtown Manhattan, this might be the most photogenic mall in America. The all white interior and towering ceiling is a must see.  185 Greenwich Street, 10007

TOP OF THE ROCK

You can go to the top of the Empire State Building to get a amazing shot of Manhattan in all directions.  There are only a few places higher for a panorama view than the Top of The Rock, the Midtown observation deck with views that can’t easily be beat.

You can look to the the south from the 70-story Observation Deck to see all the way down to 1 World Trade and the Statue of Liberty or to the north for the most incredible views of Central Park.  There’s no bad time of day to see this view of NYC from the top of the rock.  The last trip up at 11:15PM guarantees a small crowd. 30 Rockefeller Plaza, 10111
