HOW I WORE A DRESS AS A TOP

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

Being a black female blogger from Chicago my influence reaches many demographic.  The blog thefatgirloffashion has been bubbling under the surface for years.  As a Generation X kids I’m a products of shifting social norms.  With my mom having to work to support 3 children I was left to make many choices for myself and my younger siblings.  You can say they were the first group to fall under my influence, lol.  I can remember watching MTV and dancing in the mirror.  Or sitting in front of my television on Thursday nights and wishing I could be a Cosby kid.  They call people in my age range “Xers” to refer to an unknown variable or our desire not to be defined.  However, At some point we’ll all have to check a box or two.  That still doesn’t mean we have to be pigeonholed just because of some label.   And it’s the same with clothes.

Like people clothes don’t have to pigeonholed on a specific label.  A dress is just a top waiting to happen.  I took a gray bodycon dress and tucked it into a pair of my favorite jeans to turn this summer staple into a form fitting top.  This is great to maximize your clothes.  I also took this swimsuit cover up and paired with this causal look as a duster.  This adds a little extra pop of color to this monochromatic look with the flowers.  The duster also adds a flowy element to fitted look of the top and jeans.  Thinking outside of the box a little allows me away to bring some of my favorite summer pieces to colder months seamlessly.

I hope this little tips can help anyone who has favorite pieces that they don’t want to wait and wear.  Plus this can save us a few coins so we can go to fun events plus size events like theCurvycon.

Jealous Of My Future Self

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.  We’ve all heard this before right?! We’ve been told repeatedly “People are never satisfied with their own situation; they always think others have it better.”  However, thinking like that can make a girl complacent.  Thinking like that can have a girl stuck.  Sometime the grass on the other side is so green you can make your old self green with envy.

green

I’ve found myself thinking why not me.  I then have to step back and remember what’s for me is for me.  For now I have to take care of my own grass until I get to the other side.  I have my own journey.  I have my own testimony.  I see people getting breaks I wish I had but I can’t envy them.  I know I’ll never win that way.  I must support my sisters whenever possible.  I think that’s we as women trend to be jealous of what other women have.  Focusing on what other’s have will make you lose track of all the blessings you already have.  I can only jealous of my future self because that girl is truly living the life I want.

To get ready for our future selves we must work on the current us.  However we see our future self we have to work hard to get ourselves there.  If you want to make more money.  Look for a new job that pays more or go back to school for a degree.  If you want to loss weight start working out or skip that late night snack.  If you want to meet new people start going out more.  Start being jealous of your future self!  But let’s not forget to support others on our journey to our future selves.  Compliment the girl at work when you notices she spent a little more time of her makeup.  Tell the lady on the train her hair looks nice when you see she’s done something different with her hair.  When you see me on the gram double tap a playa’s pic, lol.  Your future self will thank you for it!

Late To The Party

Processed with VSCO with m3 preset

I was on the phone with a friend the other day and she was telling me about this guy she just started talking too.  She told me he had never dated a “big girl” before.  She then went on to say he made a point to say how he was looking passed her size because she was so gorgeous.  Can we pause for a moment and insert side eye emoji.  He’s so late to the party.

youre-beautiful
I had so many questions swirling around in my head.  For starters,  Where did you met this clown?  So I know where not to go.  My second question, Is he from Chicago?  Because midwest men love them some fluffy women.  They are well aware that thick thighs save lives.  Third, Girl are you really taking his backhanded compliment as a real compliment?  Honey is the thirst that real?   But that’s none of my business.  *sips tea*
At this point guys can stop saying they don’t date “big girls” as if we care.  I mean who’s mad not us!  Guys that feel that way are so late they’re not even invite to this party.  Never let anyone make you feel like they’re doing you a favor by dating you.  If plus size isn’t their preference it’s o.k..  It’s their lose not yours!  In life you must learn be happy with yourself.

Curves Customized By eShakti

I got many question on the dress I wore in the Fall In Love With Just My Size post.  The dress was made custom for me from eShakti.  I’m happy that so many people like the dress.  eShakti has made it very easy to get a dress made just for you.  I have many times found myself in like with a dress but wishing for small changes to make me fall completely in love.  This dress from eShakti has all my love.  This custom order dress took only 3 steps.

The hardest part of ordering my dress was looking though 100s of dress options.  The next step is selecting my size.  eShakti sizes available up to 6x/36W.  Then you’re asked for your height.  eShakti will adjust the garments to your height at no additional cost.  Lastly, You can customize the style to be all yours with the sleeves and length (fee of $9.95 per garment will apply to this changes).

I ordered is a pleat neck cotton plaid dress labelled CL0043290.  It’s a cotton check dress is styled with a pleated boat neck, princess seamed bodice, banded waist and flared skirt for an updated A-line.  Side seam pockets (I heart pockets).  It has a back zip with hook-and-eye closure.  My has elbow length sleeves (Has additional 7 sleeve type).  At 5ft it’s above knee length (4 length option available).  My dress is sized 2x-20W and has no stretch.  I am in love with the fit.  My waist looks amazing.  It’s giving me a real hourglass shape.  I received my dress 2 weeks later and slayed in it the first chance I got.  Oh and did I tell you this slay only cost $54.95.  Yep! You read that right.  Right now eShakti is giving $30 off your first purchase when you register and all customization would be free!

Do You Gwynnie Bee?

Screen Shot 2016-01-19 at 7.29.16 PM

I signed up with Gwynnie Bee to save money on clothes.  If you don’t know about Gwynnie Bee; It’s an online women’s clothing rental subscription service for sizes 10-32.  I’ll basically be renting my wardrobe.  I’m excited to feel stylish and savvy everyday with endless fashion options.  They have free shipping both ways (LOVE THAT) and unlimited clothing exchanges.  This is a blessing for a blogger like me that goes to many events and is always looking for something new to wear.

One blogging myth is that we all get free clothes.  Hmmmmmmm no, lol.  That’s so far from the truth it’s scary.  You all know I’m always shopping because takes me to my happy place, =).  Thanks to Gwynnie Bee I can now go to my happy place daily and my purse won’t take a hit.  I wanted to share these with my community because I often hear comments about the cost of plus size clothes.  I feel the pain too!  I want nice outfits but paying $60 to $100 for one look is to much.

With Gwynnie Bee you can pick from trendy, casual and professional dresses, tops and bottoms.  The pieces come in range of brands to like Eloquii, City Chic, Asos Curve, Junarose, Adrianna Papell and Modamix just to name a few.

I got familiar with Gwynnie Bee when they came to Chicago during their “Inspired By You Tour”.  I attended the Gwynnie Bee happy hour.  At the happy hour I got a chance to met some of the top people at Gwynnie Bee.  They stressed that Gwynnie Bee is not just a women’s monthly clothing subscription rental service.  They’re more like a clothing counselor and their goal is to help women discover, experience and enjoy great clothing without limitations.  From there I was sold!

Plus it doesn’t hurt that the  Gwynnie Bee subscription was very simple.  It’s only takes 4 steps.  Ok, 5 if you decided to keep your rental.  This could mean the end of doing laundry because Gwynnie Bee takes care of all of that when you send the clothes back.
