Laura Mercier translucent loose setting powder in MEDIUM DEEP

“Change only what you can’t live with, but try to accept who you are, and say yes to what makes you unique. Your confidence will make you sexier than any beauty product or accessory you could possibly buy.”

_ Laura Mercier

I’ve said this before and I’ll say this again I’m not an MUA nor have I ever claimed to be one.  I’m just a regular degular shmegular girl who has a real love for makeup.  With that being said I love love love Laura Mercier’s translucent loose setting powder.  I was always a fan of the translucent loose setting powder but now the brand has added a new shade called Medium Deep.  This setting powder is a silky, lightweight setting powder with a touch of sheer coverage offering a matte finish.  This medium deep tone oil-free, non-comedogenic, non-caking, dermatologically tested power can only be called a makeup blessing for darker tone makeup junkies like myself.

Laura Mercier’s translucent loose setting powder has long been a fan favorite.  To me, it’s the best of the best.  The medium deep shade for me works just as good as the original.  When a brand tries to expand its range quality can be lost in that expansion.  That’s not the case with this power.  It still goes on evenly and feels like it melts into the skin.  It blends without adding weight or texture while providing great wear.`

Now let’s talk color.  Translucent loose setting powder in Medium Deep was designed for medium deep to the very deepest skin tones.  With the original shade would cause at times flashback or a gray shadow of darker tone skin people.  The medium deep colored power know gives darker tones a translucent finish.  Laura Mercier brand recommends applying with the velour puff (sold separately). Only the 0.33 oz size /travel size of translucent powder comes with the velour puff.  I use a large fluffy brush.

I’m really in LOVE with the new shade.  The Translucent loose setting powder in Medium Deep works great for my skin tone.  It’s really easy to apply and doesn’t add weight to overall makeup application.  The current available is limited.  I was very lucky to get my hands on this powdery gold.  Also the medium deep is not currently sold in the 0.33 oz size /travel size.

(Allure Photo) Ensures makeup lasts throughout the day.

Setting powders controls and reduces shine.

It’s lightweight and does not look cakey on skin.

Help absorbs excess oil.

Brown beauties will you be trying the medium deep Laura Mercier’s translucent loose setting powder?

Just My Size Blackout Tights

Within this blog post, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on Just My Size blackout tights.  I’ll be offering benefits on the tights.  I’ll talk about fit and style.

In Chicago the skies can go from bright and sunny to black and gloomy in the blink of an eye.  I’m trying my best to fall in love with fall.  I don’t want to let the short shorts go.  I want to hang on the bodycons and mini skirts I’m use too.  We all have that one dress that we want to carry from summer to fall.  But how?  Just My Size is how I’m doing it!

We all can bring some of our favorite looks from summer and make then fall friendly with right tights and shoes.  This year my go to tights are the Just My Size by Hanes Women’s Blackout Tights with Soft-Touch Finish.

Opaque tights are so on trend this season.  They offer a much more fashionable option than wearing leggings under a dress.  I like the Just My Size blackout tights because they help in slimming my silhouette and visually lengthen my legs.  Being 5 ft that really helps, lol.  Great leg coverage, especially comfortable silky knit fabric, Smooth ComfortSoft® waist offers flexible custom fit and sleek knit-in control top make them my go to.  Paired with super trendy velour or patent leather shoes you’ll be able to wear some of your summer favorites this fall.

This post is sponsored by Just My Size, all opinions are my own.

As a plus size woman I needed theCurvycon.  Often times when I attend fashion events I’m the largest woman in the room.  Many of the looks are not even sized for me to purchase.   So when I found myself in a room full of fabulous fatties I truly felt better about myself.  Personally I don’t have self-esteem issues.  I’ve been plus size since a preteen.  I’ve always enjoyed fashion but didn’t have many options.  As an mature woman much hasn’t changed.  I’m still a plus size lover of fashion but there are a few more fashion options to select from.  But still have less clothing options to select from then my straight size friends can make even the most confident woman feel less than.  theCURVYcon reminded me that there are many fabulous women and men of size and they have her servicing fierce fashion on a silver platter.  This is why I’m excited for 2017.

Walking Tour With MixBook & Discover L.A. | #BlogHer16

My mom and I hit the #BlogHer16 ground running or should I say walking, lol.  We joined Mixbook and Discover L.A. for a photography tour of downtown Los Angeles.  Mixbook is a free online service for creating and sharing the world’s most customizable photo books, cards and calendars so who better to explore L.A. with?!  L.A. tourism board, Discover L.A., was try to make sure we hit all the best spots.  Kyle Huber was there to make sure we got our spots from the prefect angle.

mixbook 6Our tour guide.

We walked roughy a 3 mile strench of downtown L.A.  We saw from great street art and learned a lot about L.A.’s city rules and it relates to art.

.

We then continued  our tour focusing on theaters that have help make L.A.  the entertainment town it currently is.

We walked roughy a 3 mile stretch of downtown L.A.

Next up was a historic restaurant in a renovated, mutlilevel space featuring American fare & cocktails called Clifton’s.  It’s the world’s largest public cafeteria and California’s lone survivor from the Golden Age of Cafeterias, is the culmination of five generations of dining innovation.

The Last Book Store is a most see when in downtown L.A.

We also went to architectural landmark Bradbury Building located at 304 South Broadway at West 3rd Street.  The building was commissioned by Los Angeles gold-mining millionaire Lewis L. Bradbury and constructed by draftsman George Wyman from the original design by Sumner Hunt.  It appears in many works of fiction and has been the site of many movie like Blade Runner and television shoots and music videos.  Part of Janet Jackson‘s 1989 film short Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814 was shoot there as well.

After viewing the Brandy building we has lunch at the Grand Central Market.   Grand Central Market has been serving DTLA since 1917.  This amazing place with amazing food has always reflected the changing population of downtown, and in the 1920s our ninety-plus vendors included multiple green grocers, fishmongers, Jewish delis, and butchers, as well as stalls for dry goods, baked goods, flowers, coffee, cheese, notions—and even one vendor who sold nothing but eggs. DTLA has been evolving ever since, and the Market has continued to evolve with it.

In 1984, downtown visionary Ira Yellin, a successful developer with an academic interest in urban planning and historical preservation, bought Grand Central Market and adjacent properties including the Million Dollar Theater, as well as the landmark Bradbury Building across the street.

After our delicious lunch we  resumed our tour at Grand Park and then to Walt Disney Concert Hall.  The stainless steel curves of its striking exterior to the state-of-the-art acoustics of the hardwood-paneled main auditorium, the 3.6-acre complex embodies the unique energy and creative spirit of the city of Los Angeles and its orchestra.  It found it’s home due to the vision and generosity of Lillian Disney, the Disney family, and many other individual and corporate donors, Los Angeles enjoys the music of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Master Chorale and visiting artists and orchestras from around the world.

Mom and I turned in our walking radios and went to rested our feet.  The tour was great.  I learned a lot about L.A. and it’s history.

Thank you Mixbook & Discover L.A. for having us as your guest.

#ThisBody LANE BRYANT

Lane Bryant #thisbody

Lane Bryant posted on their Instagram the picture below and the caption “It all starts here. What’s your body made for? Share. Snap. Tag. #ThisBody”

lb thisbody

This got me to thinking what my own body was made for?  All my answers lead back to me.  Many women and girls have to learn to confident in themselves when others are judging them by their body shape.  I’ve been plus size every since I was a teen.  Many of the women in my family are shapely so I had great role models.  Often times body-positive role models aren’t found in the home.  So many young  women and girls turn to mainstream and social media looking for women that look like them to help with self esteem issue.  I think is great that a major brand like Lane Bryant pushes such a wonderful body positive message.  This is definitely #FatGirlApproved!

On a day when I’m moving around the Chicago Auto Show‘s 1 million square feet showroom at McCormick Place this body is made for comfort.  That comfort can in the form of a printed sheath dress from Lane Bryant.  My dress comes from Lane Bryant‘s Fast X Lane Otis collection.  Fast X Lane are select curated capsule collections.  These collections are limited edition next-level finds offered for a limited time only.  The dress I wore is from the collaboration  Lane Bryant did with a team of fashion design students from *Los Angeles’ Otis College of Art and Design.

In fashion we all want the latest greatest and Lane Bryant delivers just that with the Fast Lane.  I felt fabulous and modern in my Otis sheath dress.  I added an orange belt to give another little pop of color.  The print may be the first thing you notice about this sheath dress, but the real star of the show is the asymmetrical neckline.  The hidden zipper closure allow the design to remind the focus.  Lane Bryant started working with Otis College of Art and Design at suggestion of world famous designer Isabel Toledo.  I’m very happy they listened.  Below are some of the other pieces from the Otis Collection I’m really into (click picture to shop).

Pattern Black & White

On Dr. Martin Luther King Day I went to The Adler Planetarium.  I wanted to explore civil rights in the world a little differently.  I reflected on Dr. king’s speech “I’ve Been To The Mountain Top.” You can read my reflection in  I’ve Been To The Mountain Top in 2016.

In getting ready I got to thinking about black and white everything even in how I dress.  The ying and the yang of the bold colors.  I then went a step further with the pattern on pattern.  I’ve had these fab AVA ViV pieces for weeks now.  I wasn’t in a rush to wear them because classic looks will never get old. I love that I can wear this outfit anytime.  I could wear this pattern on pattern look to a daytime casual lunch and look just as great at any blogger event. My signature lip clutch adds a great pop of color against the black and white.  I added a gold necklace to bring a glow to the low.  If you know me then you know I’m never far from my hat.

I felt bold in this pattern on pattern look.  The AVA VIV look fits comfortably.  I would say go a size up in the pants because they are slim fit.  Also, the pants are meant to be ankle length being 5ft even their not ankle length with me, lol.  The shirt runs true to size.

If you’re not as adventurous as me and can’t see yourself in a pattern on pattern look.  The top and bottom are sold separately and would look great with solid pieces also.
