Mom 2.0 Summit Day 2
Firstly, beginning the day at 7:00 AM was a lot. And I didn’t make it. The bed had me in a chokehold. I made it to the day 2 events between breakfast and the welcome by MOM 2.0 co-founders.
.
After the welcome, we sat with Dr. Anna Malaika Tubbs. She spoke about how moms are behind every great movement. This tied in with her book The Three Mothers. Much has been written about Berdis Baldwin’s son James, Alberta King’s son Martin Luther, and Louise Little’s son Malcolm. However, nothing has been said about the extraordinary women who raised them. The book celebrates Black motherhood by telling the story of the three women who raised and shaped some of America’s most pivotal heroes.
Following Dr. Anna Malaika Tubbs we heard from Valarie Kaur. She talked with us about how do we love in a time of anger? How do we love those who hurt us? How do we love those who are different from us, whose race or religion or politics we do not understand? And how do we love ourselves? When we practice love in the face of fear or rage, it has the ability to transform an encounter, a relationship, a community, a culture, even a country. Her talk mirrored the message of See No Stranger.
