#THEKICKBACK | EVERYDAY PEOPLE | CHICAGO EDITION

The good people of Everyday People teamed up with Party Noire to bring the MILLER LITE PRESENTS “THE KICKBACK” series to Chicago! I was all to happy too join them for a day of brunching and partying at Estate Bar | Yacht Club. The Saada and Chef Roble + Party Noire hosted event would be what I’d call a day party. This 21 or older to attend kickback started at 1 p.m. and ran to about 7 p.m. I should say it should of have started at 1. I arrived shorty after 1 and I was very pleased that they had hostess ready to greet us and the entry into the venture was fast. However once inside, I COULDN’T HELP BUT NOTICE the party was still being “built”. There were people still building the “Miller Lite lounge”. The lounge was staging area where you’ve were to take photos. It was cute once finished.
I purchased the ticket that included the brunch buffet from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The food wasn’t available until 2. The line was long because they didn’t have a staffer monitoring the buffet line. We were given a band to show we purchased the meal option but there were plenty of people getting plates without bands. There was a $30 dollar difference in banded and unbanded ticket. AND OF COURSE the food didn’t last. The “buffet” was out of food by 3. A young lady in line mention to me she had came to one of there events before and the food ran out and she didn’t get a chance to eat.
There was music playing. Which sounded like a play list I could have done myself. The online flyer said there would be music by DJ Moma, Rae Chardonnay & friends the whole time. If that badly blended mix of music was professional work then they all need to go back to D.J. school.
There was a special live performance by Tink. I unfortunately didn’t see her performance. It was EXTREMELY hot in the venue. There was no air conditioning blowing at all. It was 90° making it crazy hot. I was so ready to go I asked Chef Roble when Tink would be going on so I would know how much longer I would have to stay in this hot box. At the time he didn’t know.
Everyday People is a day party founded by Saada, Celebrity Chef Roble Ali and DJ Moma in New York City in the spring of 2012. Since then, the party has been held in Brooklyn, LA, D.C, Chicago and at SxSW among many other locations. The event fuses different walks of life together in one space for daytime drinks, signature Roble dishes and feel-good jams. Past notable performers and attendees include Janelle Monae, Erykah Badu, Estelle, J Cole. Solange Knowles, jidenna, Kelis, Rohan Marley, Lion Babe, Melo-X, Alexa Chung, Beverly Bond, Dev Hynes, SWV and Luke James. With this background I was very disappointed with how this event was.
The Estate Bar | Yacht Club was a nice venue. It would have perfect if they had the air on for a party on a 90° day. There is no special seating for brunch ticket holder. I’m glad I made sure to get there early because first come first serve seating can get rough. There was plenty of seating which was nice. Brunch ticket holders got one complimentary Miller Lite beer while supplies lasted. There was plenty of beer so that wasn’t a problem. All other beverages available for purchased at the bar.
This Miller Life #Kickback was whack as hell. I was looking to have the same fun I had a the #Kickback Miller Lite did with Grits and Biscuits. It wasn’t! The heat was crazy and the music was horrible. I wouldn’t attend another one of their event. I don’t often write negative reviews. But for their parties to be so popular I was expecting much more.
There was a very diverse crowd. The vibe was every cool for the people were who came out. One of the best parts to this kickback.
