Refinery29’s 29Rooms hits Chicago
Within this blog post, I’ll be sharing my experience at 29Rooms Chicago. A collection of 29 interactive spaces created by a group of global artists, visionaries and curated by Refinery29. The theme of the Chicago exhibition is “Turn It Into Art,” celebrating the power of creativity and challenging attendees to use the 29 spaces as a source of inspiration.  Refinery29’s funhouse offers a place for style, culture, and technology.

What is Refinery29’s 29Rooms Chicago?
A $39 ticket gets you three hours of access to the interactive exhibition (with a portion of proceeds donated to nonprofit partners). 29Rooms is currently taking up space at 1522 Hubbard Street. The exhibit functions as a massive funhouse for adults. It features some of the most popular installations that have appeared in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco like the giant typewriter that you can walk on and intricate, patterned backdrops that you can take selfies in front of.
This year’s tour theme: Turn It Into Art. Started in September 2017 as a place where you can come create, play, and explore our multi-sensory playground, where we celebrate the transformative power of creativity. Make your way through individually curated rooms that are packed with magic and brimming with inspiration.

Would I attend Refinery29’s 29Rooms Chicago again?
Now I that I been in all 29 rooms and know the rules. Yeah, I’d attend again. Knowing the rules is key to having a fun time. Once you’re in, you’re IN! There is no re-entry after you exit 29Rooms. It’s a three-hour event! Water is welcomed but there is no food or drink served at 29Rooms. So eat before you go! Glad I did. Oh, happy daysssss there are restroom facilities. No coat check. So don’t bring it. A hands-free experience is key. You can bring water but I chose not to.
I went solo, a story for a later date, and had a very good time. I asked the staff and random people to take my pictures. The fun and friendly environment helped me in getting camera time.
I would go again when the Refinery29’s 29Rooms returns to Chicago because I love the Instagram worthy pictures. However, everything wasn’t peaches and cream. It was hot! I was smart and brought my portable fan. Honestly, the lines were ridiculous. I mean people were having full on photo shoots holding up the line. There is no way you can hit all 29 rooms in one session. If you suffer from fomo your last chance to see the 29Rooms “Turn It Into Art” IRL will be in Chicago this 29th. If you’re a Mastercard holder you can still get your hands on the soldout ticket.
