Café Leon Dore is a cafe and coffee bar that’s part of the Aimé Leon Dore fashion brand.  The cafe was inspired by French and Greek cafe culture.  Aimé Leon Dore is the brainchild of founder and creative director Teddy Santis.  Aimé Leon Dore name is a combination of the Queen’s native father’s name (Leon) and his grandfather’s name (Dore).

Child of Greek immigrant parents, Santis said he desires to deliver timeless work which led to the founding of Aimé Leon Dore in 2014.  With its 1990s New York aesthetic caught the eye of streetwear fans so much so that LVMH Luxury Ventures took a minority stake in Aimé Leon Dore for an undisclosed sum.

“We try and create multiple moments that hit you with a ton of emotion when you experience them at the same time.“_ Teddy Santis

Café Leon Dore is like stepping into an old-world coffee shop.  If Aimé Leon Dore garments are priced beyond your reach you can find yourself in the ALD world inside the café.  For many the cost of a cup of ALD’s coffee is as attainable as a national chain cup of Joe.

Café Leon Dore – Freddo Cappuccino

I ordered the “Freddo cappuccino”.  The “Freddo cappuccino” is a Greek iced coffee drink made with espresso, cold-frothed mike, and ice.  It is basically a chilled version of a traditional cappuccino, known for its smooth milk foam and refreshing taste, typically served in hot climates like Greece during summer months.  The key element is the thick, cold milk foam created using a milk frother or shaker.  It is often topped with cinnamon or chocolate sprinkles.  The Greek invention that originated in the late 1980s or early 1990s the “Freddo cappuccino” is popular in Greece, especially during the warmer months.

Café Leon Dore Decor

The world of Aimé Leon Dore is a mix of traditional men’s fashion with a touch of ’90s and 2000s hip-hop influence.  Café Leon Dore takes that flare to the next level.  It’s truly a luxury fashion café.  Cloaked in gold, marble, and tile saying it’s Instagramable doesn’t do it justice.  Incorporating comestibles into the flagship experience is pure genius.  Café Leon Dore alongside the Aimé Leon Dore store proves uxury is a lifestyle.

Café Leon Dore New York Fashion Week

The café is a nice spot to stop on your way somewhere else while in SOHO.  However, it’s not designed to be a stop and stay-awhile location.  Outside there is a very limited setting and people seem to monopolize that space.  I did love my “Freddo cappuccino” and would differently have another if I were in the area.  Ohh when asked get extra honey to make the strong drink a little sweet.  Lastly, there is a second Café Leon Dore located in Soho in London, and hope to visit that location soon.
