How was the body-positive movement highjacked?  It’s almost unrecognizable.  I’m not saying that everyone shouldn’t love the body their in.  The body positive movement was born from the need to showcase bodies not readily excepted by the mainstream media.

Body positivity is a social movement rooted in the belief that all human beings should have a positive body image, while challenging the ways in which society presents and views the physical body. The movement advocates the acceptance of all bodies regardless of physical ability, size, gender, race, or appearance.

Missing The Goal

The goal of the movement is to address unrealistic beauty standards and to build the confidence of oneself and others..

When brands come into the plus-size space with the sole agenda of ride the trendy body pos wave it’s a blow to all the work that the movement has achieved.  Brands offering the bare-minimum in plus-sizing so they can claim to be inclusive. When brands wants to claim inclusivity the must know a size 18 is the start of plus-sizing not the end!

bOdY poSITiviTY Means Diversity In Shapes

The Hourglass Body Shape rules the world.  We get it.  However, within the body positivity movement shapes need diversity.  Well is kill brands to show pear, apple, or a few oval body shapes?  Sidenote:  As women, we also say we wanted to see women that look like us in campaigns and ads.  This means when we see those kind of images come down your social media timeline take the time to like and comment.
